Ever wondered what its like to be genuinely smart? Stuff we go through? Here is my life, as someone who has done multiple, including state ran iq tests and averaged 133.

When I was in first grade, my teacher told my parents that I had invented my own imaginary language. She was a little concerned that it might reflect a psychological problem. I was merely trying to share with her my interest in medieval herbal remedies. Mrs. Johnson thought that 'tansy' and 'vervain' were part of my fantasy language.
When I was 16 I dearly wanted to be chosen as our school's foreign exchange student. The chosen student would spend a year in Spain. Out of 300 kids in my high school junior class, two of us were finalists and were questioned by a panel of teachers. I answered several questions in Spanish. (One of the panelists was a Spanish teacher). I was told later that this was impolite to the English speakers. They asked me how I would describe our democracy to a foreign family. I replied: "We don't have a democracy!" And proceeded with a detailed description of our electoral college and its history. I was told afterwards that this was off-putting. I was naive enough to believe that I had absolutely nailed that interview.
After 40 years, I still remember the name of the young man who was chosen. (I also remember that he spent a year in Spain, and came home still unable to speak Spanish).
I once argued with my chemistry teacher. (He was clearly wrong), His way of 'winning' the debate was to tell me that he would fail me if I didn't back down. I said my famous last words: "You can't fail me! I have straight A's".
(It turns out I was wrong about that). I had to go to summer school at our local jr. college after graduation to regain one-quarter unit of science to be eligible to accept my college scholarships. (The only science class available was a 4 unit class in Ichthyology. I loved it! I still enjoy identifying different species of fish!).
When I arrived at Cal Berkeley I felt much more at home. I was able to take a subject matter to depth and proceed at a faster pace. Grad school in England was a delight. Colleagues were brilliant and understanding, professors seemed (finally), to know what they were talking about.
I have since learned how to 'socially-navigate' outside of Academia. I have friends and colleagues in government research groups and contract jobs for NGOs. Life is good now, but you could never pay me enough money to go back and live through grade school or high school again.
