With recent patches and the developers actually listening to players the game has become way more enjoyable. While I am still skeptical about the balancing capabilities, it is extremly more enjoyable than 'Nerf anything remotely fun' mentality it seemed the develpers had

Below are my thoughts prior to the recent patches, Im keeping it here for sake of historical documentation

While the game at its Core is extremely fun and the world/premise is amazing, the live service aspect of the game has been flop after flop with promise of changes that feel like they never get fulfilled. I'm doing this here rather than the Forum they have made as a way to publicly criticize the game is the only way I can trust a corporation to even see it.

The main source of the issues with the game the majority of players have with the game is the balance of the game. This means many things to many players and I hope to encapsulate the overarching Ideas here as I give my opinion of the balance.

The bigger picture arrowhead has painted is the game is balanced around having stratagems and these are the tools NEEDED to succeed. However this sentiment is a far cry from how it is translated in the game. The stratagems suffer from cooldowns, restriction, and power levels. In its current state the game does REQUIRE certain things from the player such as being able to take down Bile titans, destroy command posts, deal with hoards and so on. These naturally do restrict the player, the issue arises when the main form of difficulty is the number of enemies.

Lets say a Bile titan spawns, you throw a 500k on it, it dies, 10/10; but another bile titan spawns, Ok you have a few expendable anti tank shots and you succeed, great; but then 3 chargers appear, then you have the choice of waiting, sometimes several minutes for stratagems to come off cool-down or spend a lot of time and resources meant for crowd control on these medium to high level enemies. Both of these options simply suck. Anywhere in this you could die and respawn which also, sucks because if you had anything the is essentially required to take on these enemies, its now gone and retrieving them inst always a option because once again you require this gear to do most of the stuff in the game and you have to wait for the cooldown. So now youre in a mostly helpless state where the only thing you can do is wait.

Part of the reason you must wait is the power level of the weapons you spawn in with. Most are so incredibly low that using them to fight medium leveled enemies such as Hulks and chargers, are doable but often a unfun and tedious process as most of the damage you can do is 0. When you can do damage it is heavily reduced. When you're fighting Biles and Walkers these few options go out the window completely and go back to the points above in the previous paragraph of playing the waiting game.

Another Issue that plagues this mentality the devs have stated for the game is the restrictions the players have that they have no control over. The level effects that make stratagems inaccurate or longer to call in or simply get less stratagems in total do nothing but cause players frustration. This paired with the system of picking only 4 stratagems lures players to only picking the best stratagems there are. Why pick X stratagem when Y is Strictly a upgrade. I cannot tell you the last time Ive seen anyone bring in the Gatling gun sentry. The pick 4 system is simply too restrictive and disincentives players from picking less optimal options. A point buy system would suit the current state of the game more. Where less used stratagems that are intentionally weaker could still have a place among the roster. If a point buy system wasnt In place, heavy cool-down buffs would essentially be required for weaker stratagems to make sure the players have a competitive option but I feel this would be the less fun and harder to balance option

The Thing the game needs is a definitive principle to balance around. I think a mix of the suggestions I have would be the optimal solution for the game as a whole. General Loadout weapons need to be better and at least have the ability to do damage to things like biles, even if its 1/10th of the damage, just to give players something to do in the worst case scenario and give them a bit of a punch to more reasonably take out medium targets like Hulks and chargers. Then change the system from where you pick stratagems to a point buy system to give players more freedom in loadouts rather then 4 slots to bring the cream of the crop, let me be able to bring a terrible stratagem just for the fun or niche it can give without me feeling substantially weaker and bringing my whole teams power down because of a fun choice.

In my mind these changes would make the game more fun, primarily between giving the player more options both before starting the mission and while in the mission.

(Sure if you manipulate the AI in certain ways or do extremely specific tactics the game becomes a cakewalk, but that from what Ive seen is not at all how the game is intended to be played and is another issue all together, Im not really looking at the AI optimized minmaxers that pull every trick in the book, more so the average player that playes the game as its intended and most fun)

Really Good game with lots of options for everyone. No problems with game play. The only problem with this game is the point system (This is also the currency for the game). There is such a heavy emphasis on the bonus objective its jarring as well as if you DON'T do the bonus objective you are penalized. Me and Another player were traitors and had a flawless victory and won before the survivers even got the first objective. I did not get a single point for that game I played perfectly but because I didn't do something that (In this situation) would not help me win I did not get points. Just a FYI if your big on progression.

Early Access Review
The foundation of the game is incredibly strong and I understand its in early access but I hope alot more can be added. From how much I played My 2 biggest wants for the game is a characcter customization so I can look cool and alot more meaningful and intersting abilitys. I mean alot more, Simple stuff could be heavily mage focused with conjoring and necromancy or maybe add skill trees [Brutes, mages, archers, ect] so you can create diffrent type of charaters so co op play is more meaningfull. And one thing I think the game needs is more intersting enemys to fight, 20 minutes in and its stale 'hit it till it dies' type stuff. I hope the game grows and the character aspect is fleshed out alot more
