First off, the intro sequence is like an adrenaline shot of 40k distilled into 10 minutes of action. Had me from the beginning.

An amazing sequel, & an even better entry for anyone new to the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It does what it sets out to in glorious style, but I do have issue with a few later set-pieces for the campaign, Chekov's gun Saber.

Speaking of metaphorical guns, the actual firearm selection in this game will leave any novice or advanced 40k fan pleased. I've never enjoyed meltas and bolters more.

The character driven part of the story leaves a bit to be desired, once I felt like characters were starting to get motivated and have arcs the game is in its final act. Space Marines are difficult to do 'human' experiences with, but you could at least try. I cared more about if a random imperial commander survived than other space marines.

The eternal war game mode is fun, surprisingly balanced in my 50 or so games. It has the feel of a game from a previous generation, & the operations are enjoyable (with the exception of mission 5) although the mixed currency across the operations, customization, and perks for operations was a bit confusing at first.

It puts a notable chapter master on screen for what I think is his first on-screen appearance, the tyranid swarms feel & act threateningly, but despite how nice the chaos enemies look I find fighting them less interesting & less difficult than the tyranids. More xenos Saber, less evil blue space marines!

They clearly love the universe & I can't wait for more, its nice to be a 40k fan and see a 40k game be made by fans too, for a while GW was handing that 40k license to any company with a pulse and it got...grim.

This however is an amazing game, This might be the only triple A title I've bought this year I didn't regret.

Kenshi was made almost exclusively by the founder of Lo-Fi Games after he attended a university to learn about game design. He quickly realized he could just make what he wanted, and learn much more effectively by just being creative outside of the sterile environment of the classroom. I think this motivated the design of Kenshi as well, with it proudly standing defiant of every 'video game' logic decision you've been trained to be accustomed to over the decades.

Choosing your race & gender matter more in this game than many Triple A recent releases. If you choose the wrong gender, skin color, or forsake being organic altogether, you're in for a cruel experience when you cross the paths of the Holy Nation. This world will make you abide by its rules. Be the rule(r). Kenshi was due for lots of post-launch updates, but the unseen success of this game caused Chris to reconsider supporting Kenshi on its already outdated engine, and he decided to put all the resources Kenshi 1 gave him to push for an even bigger & ambitious sequel. Although I consider Kenshi 1 unfinished, I still consider it complete.

It gets better as i get older, and I am content to stay in this sandbox while I await Kenshi 2.

A smorgasbord of choice, and endlessly satisfying finding new builds that have synergy with your race or religion or class

I love the variety of races and religion, but i feel like classes take a backseat once you get into Prestiges. More items would also go a long way. I'm sure there's more to come, so take my critiques as light as you can, there's a great game here.

Edit: The updates being pushed are incredible, adding lots of replayabilty. One I'll grind all the achievements for, definitely.

This game should've launched in 2026. No excuse for the lack of content. Will change my review if Fat Shark ever decides to do something other than count their cash.

Edit
Just buy space marine 2

Ever since the 40 series of drivers released this game has become unplayable. The developer response is extremely worrying, as this is not the first game published by Xbox game studios to become unplayable because of advances in hardware becoming available.. Their response is to rollback your drivers. This is not acceptable at all, this makes most games unplayable on modern hardware. DO NOT purchase this game until this review is updated, you've been warned. Can't believe another Xbox Game Studios title has had this happen.
