Early Access Review
The misspelling is off-putting.
The 9 minute down time is off-putting.
No consequences for griefing is off-putting.
Automatic voice-detection with having to force push to talk by muting your microphone is off-putting.

Sacrilege, I know.

I have a 6800 XT and a 5900 X. Yes, it's just a touch older, but it is still a powerful PC, but I can barely squeak out 90 FPS on High, having to use the awful implemented frame generation, which makes it look worse than "low", all while my computer sounds like it's trying to work as a heater. What did they test this on? A 4090? There is no point in making the game absolutely beautiful if above average PCs that run it will become a space heater, or have a 1,600 workhorse graphics card. I've tried optimizing the game, but random settings are CPU/Graphics extensive for no reason. Why does lowering cloud textures outside of the first intro cannibalize almost 15 FPS? That means that the developers have it rendering in the background constantly. Horrible optimization ruins an otherwise beautiful game, and I have no interest in upgrading my PC to play just one game. First Descendant is just as pretty and works at a buttery 120 FPS and looks as incredible if not more.

Warframe without the 11 years of FOMO, weird science fiction Japanese ninja setting and mandatory 100 hour commitment before the game "gets good."

Tentative recommendation.

Nothing glaringly predatory, even the micro-transactions are more convenience then mandatory. This ALL hinges on Nexon, which hasn't had the best history. However, currently as of July 7th, there is no reason not to try it out.

Major Order Complete!

This game is a breath of fresh air. This week's major order was a little different. Submitting a negative review to defeat the Automotan Overlords was definitely different!

Damn dude. What a fantastic game, when it works. You'd think they would incorporate succesfull ideas from the game that released 10+ years ago, instead of removing it in the name of ease of access. Except when the ease of access doesn't work :/

Pros:
Each build comes online quickly, allowing you to join and be productive from the get go! This is due to the game defining traits being front-loaded versus being backloaded like PayDay 2. You got one perk to spend? Alright, you started on the Manipulator, congrats, hostages count for 2.

The overall gameplay feels weighty and packs a punch. Gunplay feels slower than Payday 2 which came of more arcade-shooter style. Each bullets feels like it hurts and cover is more important then ever.

Perks that were huge QOL in PD2 are just given inherent, such as infinite zip ties.

Cons:
The game's matchmaking is broken. There are 12 heists at launch, with 4 difficulties each. You've absolutely NO idea what other's are playing. You want to run Very Hard Bank Heist, guess what, you might legitimately be the only one. No issue right? You'll just queue up solo. Nope, prepare to spend at least 15-20 minutes waiting for a Invite Only/Friend Only match.

There is no VOIP, so good luck typing everything with no distinction if your teammates said something or if their skills proc-ed such as "There's a camera nearby."

Game icons will hang on progression through the entire match. Let's say in Bank Heist, the first one, you left a thermite bag and didn't end up using it. Well, the objective marker will STAY on that bag the entire match, and will no progress to the next section such as bagging the money. This isn't that big of a deal until you are looking for the escape route, or the barricades FOR the escape route, or the sprinkler, or whichever hostage that the NPCs have gotten to.

Overall, I cannot recommended this game in it's current state. It is borderline unplayable, which is a crying shame because when you actually GET into a match, it's a blast. I'll pick this up when it's on sale, or on Xbox Gamepass, because I didn't purchase Payday 3 to play "matchmaking lobby waiting simulator", I wanted to play "Bankrobbing Simulator 3".

Why are you even reading this when you could be playing this game? My only regret is that it was released in 2021, meaning that the greatest game of the decade has already been released, and we have another 10 years of crap before we get something comparable.

Cool concept. More like Smash Bros 64, but unfortunately, its 2022. Building a "team-smash bros" is a cool concept with characters/weakness, but introduces a fundamental problem, other people are looking out for themselves, and you are unable to change your choice or leave after you sign up.
Unless you start in teams WITH another player, throwing you into a random match with another random player is straight up a gamble on whether your characters will mesh right, and makes the self-sufficient characters shine better than they should be.

This also doesn't help Player First Games save face from a flawed fundamental character design choice. They developed a game that HIGHLIGHTS specific characters that have weakness built into them with the excuse of them be more specialized. These characters will either get buffed into outer space, or fall into player oblivion with 1-2% pick rates.

This is ESPECIALLY highlighted in 1v1.

You can't build a game that is attempting to be competitive like this by "baking in" deficiencies and weaknesses from a character design point with the thought process of a teammate to shore them up for you, AND then make general "Good" character with NO weaknesses, that just do everything "Okay."
The "Okay" characters will become "Great" because they aren't bad at ANYTHING. Either every character must have some kind of weakness, or make every character stand-up on their own.
Each comes with it's own balancing issues, but Player First Games signed up for one hell of an active updating scheduling by designing like this.
Unless they clean it up quickly, this game won't survive long, because eventually it all just boil down to "Fox/Falco" on "Final Destination."

Except it'll be Bugs/Tom/Shaggy/Harley on Sky Platform.
