I'm going to split this review up into two parts, one being the casual review and the other being the competitive side.

Starting off with the casual side of the game. Like many other couch party games, this fighter is quite easy to pick up at a fundamental level and is different enough from other fighters for the people to want to go play more popular fighters. The games are very short meaning everyone gets a lot of playtime regardless of skill level. Also, the variety of different weapons allows everyone to find something that fits how they want to play whether that be smacking their opponents with a massive hitting weapon or whittle down others health with swift attacks. Overall, at a casual stance, this game is very fun to play with friends without having to put in hours of learning and being stuck in 30+ minute games.

Now on to the competitive aspect of this game. I've been playing this game on and off for about 2 years and in the recent year I have actually taken ranked more seriously. My peak elo is only 2250 (Low diamond) so my opinion might differ from those in the pro scene of this game. I found that when I started to play ranked and found myself stuck in the gold-platinum elo range, I struggled with understanding why I was losing and ended up blaming the opponents play styles for why I lost. As I realised that I needed to focus on myself to improve instead of complaining, I realised that everyone will have their own way of playing. A big portion of the population of mid-ranged ranked players tend to play with the same mentality as I had leading to very toxic post-match messages. This can be quite annoying for people who aren't taking the competitive scene like life or death and it can end up saturating their enjoyment.

Moving on to gameplay mechanics, the game focuses on having a lot of mobility (1 grounded jump, 2 airborne jumps, 1 recovery, and a dodge). With instead of having the ability to shield, like in many other popular fighter games, you have a dodge which has a short cooldown after use. The problem that comes with such high mobility and a dodge that has very small cooldown creates a kind of bait/punish fighting style which a lot of people find slow, boring, and frustrating. I have had very little issue with this but I have noticed certain opponents that are always waiting for you to make the first move to the point where sometimes you can just stand still and they won't make a move. Aside from that problem, competitive play is generally straightforward with not much to it.

I would really recommend this game to anyone who’s trying to have fun with friends with a very fast paced action packed game. For those trying to find a good competitive 2d platform fighter, you better have good patience and good learning habits going into the scene. I wish you luck!

Tl:dr Good game fast paced game for casual play with friends, you gotta have a good mental if you want to play competitively.
