While it's not as well structured as Downpour or the base game, it certainly captures the feeling of being extremely lost and out of your depth that your first playthrough of the basegame brings out so well. I liked seeing the modded regions and the return of Aether Ridge, even if it was fragmented .

I haven't 100%'d the DLC yet but I greatly enjoyed my time with it so far, there's some very cool moments in there for sure. That one aquatic creature does suck, I hope they change it.

I would describe this game as a more orchestrated Necrodancer, each scenario is about 20-25 minutes, so the game is not even 1 hour long if you play everything perfectly first time around.
I have 64 hours in the game so you know that doesn't really matter.

While Necrodancer can't take much liberty with hard attack patterns due to resources being so scarce and it being permadeath, Yoiyami is split into 2-4 minute easily practicable sections which are almost impossible the first time around.

This is similar to the mainline touhou games where you're not going to get a 1cc first time (if you're new to the genre), this means you have to memorize the harder patterns through trial and error, and once you figure them out it will likely help you figure out the later patterns faster; this a staple of bullet hell games.

Basically, it's Necrodancer but with significantly more complicated attacks and player movement (due to diagonal movement/ charging). If you like the idea of whitling away at daunting and beautiful attacks until you've perfected them, then this game is certainly for you.

Even if that doesn't appeal to you, the music and artstyle are phenomenal and there's a ton of set pieces where the gameplay and music come together perfectly, such as in scenario #2 stage 3/ final boss, which I almost think is worth buying the game for, tripper and rokugou did an amazing job with presentation.

If you even just like Necrodancer or Touhou then I would still recommend it, especially with a 20% discount.

I really really like this game.
