I have spent a bit of time debating myself about this, but at the end of the day, I just couldn't bring myself to give this game a recommendation.

My main issue with this game is that it, in essence more closely relates to games like "The Park" as opposed to classics like "Resident Evil" or "Silent Hill" but has a system setup meant to replicate 3rd person horror games of the PS1, Dreamcast and PS2 era.

What didn't work for me:

The Story:

I liked the approach that the developers went with to let the story unfold through collected tapes and recorded thoughts from our protagonist. But since you are thrown in the middle of these events with no real connection to anything, you are relying on the final scene to throw everything together, which it unfortunately doesn't. (I hear that the developers are patching the ending, but that should have been done before release)

The story gets very interesting halfway through, which makes the lackluster ending all the more unsatisfying.

Combat:

Just bad. It took me a while to realize that you have to wait for the aiming crosshair to shrink in order to get a clear shot on your enemies. The dodge does not work well. Think of the dodge mechanic in the Dreamcast game "Illbleed" but instead of it being broken in your favor, it's the complete opposite. Thank goodness for the "Knockback ability". There is also a mode that tones down the combat, which I recommend. The combat serves more as something to break up the monotony of running around all over the place, but honestly in my opinion should have been left out all together.

What I Have to give credit to:

If you can get immersed in the game, the note taking system and cassette tapes do fill you in on what you are supposed to be doing throughout the day. Actually reading this stops you from doing too much backtracking.

I thought the music was phenomenal!

The graphics were pretty good!

The puzzle tables were challenging!

If I had to give this game a grade, it would be somewhere between a 5.5 and a 6, but I just found this experience too drab to recommend.
