It being the very niche genre of of FPS tower defense makes it a fun game, but even just as a shooter I find it very satisfying.

It's a fantastic game, I really recommend it.
My only complaint is that I recently got a new PC and it won't run on it. From what I've read this is something that has happened to other people, that the game just doesn't work for some folks. Which is just too bad, because it really is a great game.
Update: it works now, love this game, buy it

This was the first game by Miwashiba I've played and I really enjoyed it. So much so, that after finishing the first third I went and bought the rest of their games. It's cute, it's concepts are really interesting, and I liked the writing. A dragon that eats lies? That's an idea I've never heard before and has a lot of potential, and it's used quite well in the story and gameplay.
The story itself, I really liked. I often don't play games through multiple times to get all the endings, but this one I wanted to and still come back to for other details. (I still haven't gotten the good ending to the final game, I'll probably just need to pull up a guide.) The dynamic of characters and their varying views of eachother is also great.
My favorite part, which I think should be in more games, is that at the end of each game, after getting the good ending, you're rewarded with a room that contains all the animated scenes and music. Which is a perfect, because they really are something to be enjoyed.
As a bonus, the game also comes with the soundtrack free. That's really just wonderful.

Now, I'm not a huge fan of roguelikes, and games that don't have a story or end goal often lose my attention quite quickly.
Risk of Rain, however, is a truly FANTASTIC game, one that I can easily and proudly place among my favorites.
Pros:
-Sound.
This is a game that just sounds awesome. They all compliment and mesh together really well, and are all distinct enough to help distinguish one sound from many others at the same time. And boy, is this a game that really benefits from it, because when there is hundreds of things onscreen happening at once, the experience on the ears would be unbearable if they didn't get it perfect. Also, the individual sounds themselves are awesome. Things just really sound HEAVY and impacting, making for a very satisfying gameplay.
-Music
I love the soundtrack of this game. Like the sounds, it meshes perfectly with what's going on and really adds to the settings it backgrounds. Easily said, the audio is my favorite part of this game.
-Visuals
Despite how few pixels this game works with to represent objects and characters, it's all done masterfully. Everything can be picked out from the screen with ease, even when zoomed out to the max and cluttered with monsters, and all this done while still keeping it beautiful and in harmony.
-Progression
It's just fun. The entire game has lots of progression, both in-game and for the player. As you get further into the game, it teaches you how to better use your skills and items and does so without needing any tutorials or directions, but rather in having the criteria for unlocking items be good practices and training your skills.
-Gameplay
While playing this game I never felt like I was being cheated or that it was too difficult. Mind you, this is hardly an easy game, but I never felt that any of it's difficulty was overbearing, requiring skills that are far from attainable. Getting good is something that's fun to do and a goal that's exciting to go after, instead of an obstacle to overcame in order to enjoy the game.
-Could probably run on a pocket calculator

Cons:
-Default Keyboard Controls
This is a very minor one as you can reconfigure all controls. Personally, I always recommend using WASD-IJKL instead.
-Multiplayer
Not the easiest setup to get to work, but maybe that's just me.

It's a wonderful game that I can, and do, recommend to anyone. I've given all my friends a go and they've all enjoyed it, and it's given me a lot of good times. Especially for it's price, I'd say just play it.

This was the first game I bought on just a gut feeling, and I am quite glad that I did.
The world is pretty, boss fights were difficult but didn't feel impossible, and I had a lot of fun playing it.

It's a short game, small download, and it's free.
I liked the art and the game world, there isn't much to it, but what is there is good.
