Boltgun is everything a modern boomer shooter should be; oldschool style infused with modern game features.

Where this game really shines is its presentation.
You truly feel like an elite spacemarine. Human foes throw their arms up in the air and scream in fear when you come around the corner. The ground beneath you booms with every step, but you move swiftly across the battlefield. Landing on top of an enemy or a dead body will crush it into a pile of bloody pieces. The speed you reach when you charge, and how you knock enemies aside and off ledges to their deaths makes you feel like a human wrecking ball. All the guns feel, look, and sound powerful and deadly. There isn't a single gun that isn't useful or fun to shoot. The chainsword is probably the most satisfying weapon in the game; I would find myself shooting enemies down to their last bit of health then going in for the kill with my chainsword just because it's that cool and satisfying to use.
All of the environments have this dark, ancient industrial feel to them. Levels are usually set in some sort of catacomb, fortress, or cavern. Plus a dessert ravine and a snowy mountainside. You get a great sense of scale; the first chapter starts on top of a snowy mountain and you work your way down the mountain into a fortress. You can tell your altitude is changing with each consecutive level, and you have a sense of location. There are tons of interesting visuals and textures that have genuinely made me stop and admire them. There are multiple secrets on every level (basically powerups tucked away in corners), rewarding you for exploring every corner.
The gameplay is great. As I mentioned above, you feel like a powerhouse. all the abilites, guns, and grenades feel great to use. All the enemies are unique and pose a unique challenge. The game does a good job of introducing new enemies and combinations of enemies. The game will give you a steady stream of new/different challenges but it will also give you time to digest and get to know the enemies you've already encountered. All enemies have unique moves and attacks to throw at you. They also have a toughness which you usually want to match or exceed in your weapon's strength. That being said, every gun is very useful. Sure, the plasma and melta are beter for bigger, tankier enemies, and the shotgun and bolter are better for weaker foes like humans, but all weapons are usable against all enemies. Your starting bolter won't lose relevancy later in the game, you will still get good use out of it until the end. The handling (how it feels to move and look in this game) feels fine. Ultimately, the gameplay is rock solid. The only reason I would only rate the gameplay a 9/10 is that it lacks that "something" that makes you crawl back for more.
The soundtrack is serviceable. It sets the tone but it's mainly just background noise.
The story is stupidly simple. You're a spacemarine and you're sent on a mission to the bad guys. That's pretty much it. The only story beats you'll get are a few cutscenes and exposition from your servitor (a little robot companion) at every checkpoint. Calling it exposition is a bit generous because all he says is something along the lines of "ah, this door to the armory is jammed! Probably the work of chaos. We must find an alternative route." He might say more, but I honestly only read about half the things he says because his speech box appears on the top left only for a second or two and I'm always too busy shooting to read it in time.

Overall:
Presentation: 10/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Art: 9/10
Music: 6/10
Story: 4/10

Boltgun doesn't do anything crazy or unique, but the package as a whole is one of the best experiences you could hope for.
This game is like an extremely well polished, beautiful diamond. You've seen plenty of diamonds before - they're nothing super special like an emerald or a ruby, but that doesn't mean diamonds aren't great! HOWEVER, this diamond (Boltgun) is one of the most beautifully cut and polished diamond you'll ever see, and I think that's just as good if not better than those other "unique" gems.

The only reason I would not recommend this game is if you dislike boomer shooters or Warhammer 40k. It also does lack in story, but I doubt people would mind unless you REALLY care about a game's story. If that's the case, I'd genuinely just recommend playing another genre entirely because I don't think boomer shooters tend to focus on that. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try if you're on the fence!

Short and sweet. It offers a surprisingly entertaining puzzle system along with a great boss fight.
Great music and great art. It doesn't try to take itself seriously, or waste your time.
Every puzzle, mechanic, character, and piece of dialogue is great as well.
The only bad thing about this game is it's too short; it only takes at most 1 to 2 hours to play, and is overall a very fun experience. If you aren't considering this game because you're skeptical of it being a generic harem game, I'll leave you with this: this game does not waste your time.
I look forward to any future endeavors the creator has!

Yet another good, original Behemoth game that will be very entertaining for co-op couch gamers, or people who like comedic games
