For the longest time i didn't really have a way to contribute to the "what game will you pick if you could wipe your memory off of it and have a fresh start again" topics. Now, i think i do.

This one. I'll be honest, i envy you, the person reading this, if you never played or saw this game yet. For all 30 hours up until now, i was hooked on trying every option, every route. To listen, to laugh, to anguish, to get a gut wrenched sideways. But slowly i'm reaching the end. Sure i could just reset my progress and go at it again, but it won't change that i know the outcomes. Board reset will not change anything. Maybe i'll return later, when i forget. When the time to meet Princess is again.

Join me. The Princess is worth it. Her voices, our voices. Our actions, her reactions, our reactions, her actions. Slaying or not.

Now pushing off the melancholy a little bit, objectively speaking this game is awesome, even for a person like me that doesn't have much interest in visual novels. Great voice acting, incredibly variety of choices ranging from sickly sweet down to morbidly cruel and everything in between, with outcomes from satisfying to ones you would prefer to alt+f4 then to experience them. You will feel happy, sad, distraught, in awe, in pain. And by the time it is done - you will long for the spark that you experienced, but the only way for you to do so is to forget. And Princess will still be here, when the time comes to meet again.

Definitely worth it. And remember, most of all, regardless of what you choose or not.

This is a love story.

There is about a handful of positives, a multitude of "meh" and some glaring negatives. Sure, the game itself is not "bad" in a way it's poorly made or doesn't play well. Game wise, it's solid, but i just cannot recommend it. If i didn't got it from humble choice, i would refund it after an hour, but since it was here until deleted, i decided i might as well see if it gets better.

It doesn't. From 1st hour to the last, it's just mediocre shooter-platformer with everything and everyone yapping. Just constant yapping. Even if you turn them down during combat, there is a lot of dialogs with more yapping that cannot be skipped. At times it was amusing, but for the most of the time it was just toilet humor. So much jokes and gags in this category it was just irritating at some point. For better or worst at least game isn't too long, so i didn't feel completely awful about it.

For a more listed annoyances of mine, here is a handful of positives, mehs and negatives.

+ Weapon abilities were neat, and combining it during traversal segments with jetpack and dashes was pretty fun
+ The story premise. Pretty dumb, but they stick to it and it worked, somewhat.
+ Artstyle. The whole vibrant albeit "goopy" alien world of High on Life is something that should be given a positive for.

= Combat. The whole combat just felt... Dull. Feedback on receiving hits or shooting and hitting is nearly non existant.
= Traversal. While combining abilities and jetpack was neat, as a whole package, it was jarring to deal with. It didn't flow well. I played games that are over 10 years older than this and did that better.
= Dialogs. Sometimes they were aight, but for the 3 aight dialogs or quips, there was about 5 that made me get a headache.

- Talking. So much talking. Unskippable dialogs of talking. Guns talking with no way to skip them. Suit talking. Everything talks, almost all the time there is something that talks.
- Enemy variety. There is about 5 enemy types (7 if you count reskins between ants and the yellow dudes).
- Boss fights are not engaging at all. The only good one is the one before final boss, due to having some story moments. All remaining ones can be done by unloading special abilities and juggling boss in the air/time bubble/stun

More of a exploration game than soulslike in my opinion. Sure you have some difficult stuff here and there, but after getting a hang of couple basic mechanics combat becomes fairly easy. If not for the fun platforming, solid story and just straight up nice to look at stuff, you could get bored off of combat alone.

But with this things combined and mixed, combat becomes bearable, and once you find some favourites in terms of skills, shells and adaptations, it turns into pretty fun. If you struggle, consider exploring more. All these microplastics add up.

Oh and remember, fun ocean fact - there are microplastics in your blood and you can't do nothing about it!
Edit. Microplastics are still in your blood!

You know, not often do i want to immediately jump to writing positive review after finishing a game. But this one? Can't stop myself, but what i will stop myself from are spoilers.

All i can say, you'll get solid thriller/scary gameplay with some combat, neat but not overly complicated boss fights, great looking environments, gripping story, frankly very atmospheric game and godly soundtrack.

All of that, for a moderate fee~

Though right now, on sale, it's a steal for a gem of a game like this one. If you consider getting it and my recommendation might sway you towards it - i hope it will.

This game deserves a bit more love. Sure it lacks the edge and angst of Salt & Sanctuary and the crafting system is not up the ante of everyone, but it really plays great.
Grotesque designs are still there, so is platforming. Yes, parries and shield + weapon are gone, also some of the wacky weapons are not here (not that there isn't different ones in their space - you can get a chainsword for example). I will say i miss the Sanctuary music. This one feels too... Mellow. And also there is about a single track for everything. One for mage combat, one for boss combat, one for each map (or none at all at times). Honestly pasting Sanctuary music in here would do it great.
Gameplay wise in my opinion is pretty fun, so is exploration. Areas are not too sizeable, which doesn't make the game drag on, and fights themselves... Well they could always be better, but if you can secure first hit on standard mobs you should be fine. I did enjoy variety of mages and coming up with what which does based on elemental damage splits. Normal bosses were... Okay. Nothing special unfortunately.
Give it a chance if you think like you might enjoy it, or played Salt & Sanctuary. Do remember to also check Salt & Sanctuary, both of these games are quite awesome.

So we hold some power of Snoy, aren't we?
Edit: not quite there yet. The ban on sale for PSN-less countries is still there, and so will this review be in red until that's lifted.

Sony backed off from mandatory PSN linking. My account is still linked, but i joined the review bombing and didn't play for the weekend. Now however, with looming dread of losing 2/3 of countries who could play with us gone, i can for sure give it the positive review it deserves.

Despite bugs, balance issues and performance not always being up to ante, the game is superb fun, be it solo (albeit it got a bit more sweaty now) or in group. And as you see, you will not be left on ice in group content with fanbase like this one. Time to dive again.
Helldivers to Hellpods.

30 hours down, 100% game with all of the flags and side missions. I liked it personally. While there is less to do than in Nioh, you can make quite a nice combination of attacks and skills, if you want to do it over just deflect into spirit attack into fatal blow. Waiting for DLC's to drop before getting into NG+ though.

Edit: The DLC's are rolling in, and so are extensions and updates a plenty. I think if you wanna try this game, wait until last DLC drops. This way, you'll receive the best experience it can give to you.

Well i forgot to review, but since we have a time for it now.

All in all, i liked it. Great visual style, solid music, good combat. Too many flying and very mobile ranged enemies without ways of catching them consistently in the endgame (you usually got a "freeze" skill, but with like 4-5 of these mobs it gets hard to pinpoint them down, while they can rain hellfire upon you).

Story was... There. it was of a background drop to gameplay then anything. Only liked second to last boss, others were just a bullet sponges that fought back a bit.

Short, sweet and cheap point & click compilation of old flash games. Good games. Perfect intro to spooktober.
