disclaimer i got no hours on this game because i tried it out on a friend's pc prior to this

as a competitive fighting game player i'm COMPLETELY blown away by how good this game feels! great movement, fun and varied defensive systems to stop the game from becoming a mashfest, a high/low system, 3 DIFFERENT PARRIES all with slim timing windows, the ability to hard punish revenge counter with good reactions and a small resource trade

the windows being so tight on all the particularly flashy stuff puts you in the headspace of a dragon ball character, reacting to and reading the opponent at a pace that FEELS inhuman but is actually super intuitive despite its toughness. having an element of execution makes every single exchange in this game utterly euphoric, because that wasn't the game giving you cool ♥♥♥♥ for free; YOU did that ♥♥♥♥! you timed that attack and you got a sonic sway confirm into a super! you and your opponent got 8 z-counters in a row because you both refused to lose the interaction! this beautiful combination of crazy speed, deep systems that have strong synergy with one another and a demand of timing and execution puts sparking zero (and by extension the rest of the budokai tenkaichi series) heads and shoulders above every other anime arena fighter that doesn't have "maxiboost" in its name.

story mode is great fun to play through too! it's not just fun because of the what-ifs (which are so damn good btw) it's old-school tough, but not in an unfair way-- just in a way that asks you to interact with and learn the game's mechanics. after getting cooked by them in the canon route, when i ran it back against vegeta & great ape vegeta for goku's first what-if saga, i didn't lose to either one once. this is because i learned to super perception his obvious dragon dashes, end my combos in specials, z-counter HIS specials and consistently attempt super counters on his rush combos + sonic sways if i block them. i then had to use everything i learned to scrape by the ginyu force gauntlet where you have to fight all 5 of them one after the other. THIS GAME REWARDS YOU VERY HEAVILY FOR USING ALL THE TOOLS IT LEAVES AT YOUR DISPOSAL! PRACTICE AND EXPLORE NEW STRATEGIES INSTEAD OF WHAT'S COMFORTABLE TO YOU UNTIL EVERY MECHANIC IS SECOND NATURE!

no idea if this'll be a consistent mainstay for me like my other fighting games but i do know that whatever amount of time i end up spending on this game will be some of the most fun i ever have with any dragon ball game! now if only we could do something about the straight robbery prices on those anime music packs.

the game is DUMMY fun; if you liked river city girls 1, this is everything that was and more! the visuals are as polished as ever, the addition of fun minigames for sidequests helps keep the gameplay loop refreshing, a lot of great quality of life changes have been added, and the combat and combo system are vastly improved: a combo counter, two wallbounces, new moves, a new meter, air combos, new cancels, new ways to launch and more gimmicks to set characters apart! riki can set multi-hit orbs anywhere on the screen and combo off of them!!!! like what the ♥♥♥♥ that's sick!!!!!

the current 30fps lock definitely is unfortunate, but admittedly it barely registered as a problem for me because all i could focus on was how much more fun this game is than the previous one! that makes it even more important that a 60fps patch comes out though, because i want to experience rcg2 at its full, silky smooth potential!

please treat yourself to something great this christmas by playing river city girls 2!

p.s. if you're still on the fence about buying it, sol badguy and jam kuradoberi are in this game and you can call them as assists. go and live out your Guilty Gear Crosstag Battle fantasies

This game is unplayable. In episode 149a of Spongebob, in season 7, we're treated to the incredibly important lore that Patrick Star is in possession of an innie belly button.

Yet, in your so called "polished" video game, Patrick Star has an outie. And I'm outie too-- outRAGED. As a Patrick Star main, is it not enough that we exist at the bottom of the tier list? Is our existence just a neverending joke to you fiends? As it stands, your game was clearly released in an unfinished state. I will be awaiting your apology email, as a company, for this most grievous oversight, as well as $50 cashed in directly to my Paypal. You have made a mockery of Patrick Star fans everywhere.

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is absolutely gorgeous, with a heavenly OST and gameplay that takes a step back from Arcsys' usual breakneck pace anime fighting action, instead offering an experience with heavier focus on neutral and footsies that is much more reminiscent of Street Fighter than MvC. It's an unusual direction for Arcsys to take, but with Granblue's more grounded (there are several potential layers of pun here but I refuse to touch any of them) cast, I feel this works in favor of the game and its setting. As is the nature of neutral-heavy fighting games, the gameplay is simple yet fun, in-depth and rewarding. Its intuitiveness always makes this game a fun time whether I'm versing other fighting game veterans or friends less skilled at fighting games.

Also, the RPG mode is probably my favorite single player experience in any fighting game I've ever played.

I personally cannot recommend this game enough. However, it's a difficult sell to make at full price, considering the game's shortcomings in terms of delay-based netcode, sparse lobby population, and pricey DLC (especially considering the Steam versions come with none of the promised benefits the console versions give for the GBF gacha... that being said a good chunk of the GBVS playerbase doesn't really care about that, but still). GBVS is best enjoyed with a local group of friends who are willing to run sets with you from time to time, and I'd recommend buying the game and its DLC only during a sale, like the one currently happening for EVO right now.

I give this game 8 fundoshis out of 10.

Buff Soriz. I don't care that he made it into EVO top 6, he needs it anyway.
