Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is a classic point'n'click adventure game released in the same year of the film with the same name. This is the 1990 VGA version, updated from the 1989 original (without the enhanced soundtrack). Unfortunately, the steam version don't include the enhanced FM Towns soundtrack. Like all games of the genre at the time, there is no voice acting. The graphics are very decent for the time, though, and the gameplay are very pleasent (you have to use the Grail Dairy copy, which cames with the game, to solve some of the puzzles, which adds to the plot) and with some good jokes.
The game has a point system that was cumulative among different playthroughs. In principle this is a good idea, since it rewards the player for exploring all alternative paths. However, as soon as you realise that this will involve mastering the action sequences, you start to regret going for the maximum score. So while completing the game is not particularly hard, getting the maximum score is pretty tough.
While i didn't found any deadends, missing something early in the game may make later chapters much harder. In particular, some of the alternative paths are action sequences, which can be a pain to get through. You can past most of the fighting sequences with the right item or choosing the correct options on the dialogue, but they're hard to figure out, as there are no clues for them, so i recommend you use a walkthrough, to enjoy the game more.
There is another game with the same name, also for PC, but is the arcade / action version.
In my opinion, this game scores 8/10.

Spellcasting Collection is not for everyone. You have to like text adventure games, because this trilogy uses a text parser. You can play in 'nice mode' or in 'naughty mode' for a more adult approach (language and partial nudity). Some puzzles and the story itself is somewhat obtuse. But there is plenty of sarcasm and humour to contend with, which turns the games into a very nice experience. It's important that you read the manuals to understand the story context and because there are some essential clues there, as well as copy protection. Yeah! This games came out in diskettes, so there is that!
The two first games can be played in VGA, but the third supports SVGA graphics.
For music, the best option is the Roland MT-32.
In my opinion this collection scores 7/10.

Blade of Destiny is the first part of the so called "Nordic Trilogy" in the "The Dark Eye" universe.
This game is an hidden gem for CRPG purists. You have great control over your characters profiles. Prepare to spend considerable time to create your characters, but it's worth it. You can create up to 6 characters and you can chose from 11 classes: Warrior, Dwarf, Pirate, Thief, Juggler, Magician, Witcher, Druid and three types of Elves. Every character has 6 good and 6 bad attributes. For example, strength and intelligence are good and superstition and fear of dead are bad. But these are only the basics. You've got also about 30 skills to work out.
The traveling system is very good. You can visit almost 50 locations (cities and dungeons) by travelling by foot or by ship. During your journeys you meet a lot of NPCs which can be helpful or just want to have a chat with you. The fighting is based on rounds. When you walk through a city you see the first person perspective and when a fight comes out it changes to an isometric perspective. There's a great strategy to it. You spend movement points for every action. The account of these points depends on how much your characters carry.
Your group are forced to sleep, eat and drink (sometimes a real problem in dungeons far away from any city). So you must have a character which is good in hunting. You have to chose the right answers in dialogues. When you travel you can get ill if you don't have the right clothes.
Whenever you finish the game you can transfer your party to the next Realms of Arkania game, if you kept your savefile, which is great.
I finished this wonderful game a very long time ago.
In my opinion, this game scores 8/10.
Note: you can greatly improve the sound using the Roland MT-32 option (there are some videos on youtube that explain how you can do that in DOSBox or ScummVm games).

Paganitzu is a nice and old puzzle game with action elements, with EGA graphics and only PC Speaker support for sound effects. Each room is a puzzle in which the hero must collect gems for points and keys to unlock the exit door, while avoiding nasties such as snakes and spiders. There are also boulders to be both moved and traps to be avoided. Bonus points are awarded for finding secret areas and for speedy completion.
I have beaten this game about 20 years ago and, although i think it's a good game, some levels were irritating by being too hard. In my opinion this game scores 6/10.

The Last Express is one of the most original adventure games, and probably also the only one that actually keeps the promise of true real time gameplay. It's an historical detective drama with exceptional presentation and far-reaching gameplay ideas. Unlike many games claiming the same, The Last Express truly runs in real time and in full 3D. It's time flows just like in real life: each second that passes does so not only for you, but also for everyone else on board the train where the game takes place.
The characters in The Last Express act according to their own schedules. Nobody will wait for you in a certain place, because nobody is "supposed" to be there until you find a way to solve a puzzle or just want to take a break. There can be no breaks taken in the game, just like in real life. The behavior of the characters is strikingly realistic: they walk around, talk to each other, react to your presence, etc. The train is never the same: things keep happening. Much of the gameplay is dedicated to exploration, and the dynamism of the game ensures that you'll always encounter something of interest and be surprised more than once.
The only weakness of The Last Express, however, is it's puzzle design. It offers a paltry amount of inventory-based tasks, and no real logic puzzles. The real-time investigation is exciting, but after a while you begin to crave for more solid adventuring. There aren't enough spots available for real interaction, and the game is confined to just one location - the train itself. Admittedly large, it still consists of similar-looking areas, and the absence of a strong puzzle system with varied options leads to eventual repetitiveness of gameplay. There is much to discover here, but not really that much to do besides wandering around and eavesdropping on conversations.
The art of the game and the soundtrack are excellent. I have beaten this game a long time ago (it took me 4h to finish). In my opinion this game scores 8/10.

This game has a great atmosphere. The player assumes the role of a cop, with an entire city to explore, in a 3D environment. There are various missions to acomplish, to progress in the game. It has a great story and good gameplay, GTA style. I think the game was way ahead of it's time (come out before GTA III) and, for some reason, didn't receive the attention it deserved. I admit the controls are a little wonky but, after some time, you get the feeling of them without any problem. I have beaten this game long time ago.
In my opinion, this game scores 9/10.

Uau. What we have here? A 3D action/adventure game of Indiana Jones in Tomb Raider style, developed by LucasArts. The story was created by Hal Barwood. Excellent voice acting from the great Doug Lee. Plenty of puzzles and secrets to contend with. Good soundtrack. What more can we, gamers, ask for? Do a favor to yourself and play it.
I have beaten this game a long time ago.
In my opinion, this game scores 10/10.

This game come out in 1999 (not in 2001 as is announced here), is a first person adventure game, similar to Myst, and is based on a graphic novel by Benoît Sokal. Amerzone is not a game for everyone. People with patience will enjoy it, action lovers will hate it. It's puzzles are relatively easy, but total newcomers may become frustrated with it. The cutscenes are excellent, the story is decent, and the extras - journals, letters, the like, are well done. The music is acceptable. I have beaten this game long time ago.
In my opinion, this game scores 7/10.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul is primarily a free-roaming third-person 3D adventure game. Much of the player's activity in the game consists of exploring a large city, which is separated into five districts. The player is generally free to roam the city regardless of the plot development. Certain buildings can be entered and explored. Automatic taxi-like vehicles called "sliders" can be hailed to shorten walking distances and deliver the protagonist straight to the goal. In order to advance the story, information must be gathered by communicating with characters and solving puzzles of various kinds, inventory as well as logic-based. The emphasis of the gameplay, however, is on exploration and interaction rather than on puzzle-solving.
Throughout the course of the game, the player may take on the role of up to 41 different characters through the use of the soul transfer ability. In many situations, a soul transfer is required to solve a puzzle and advance the plot, e.g. accessing a restricted area with a specific character who is able to enter it without arousing suspicion.
Besides the adventure mode, the game also contains first-person shooter and fighting gameplay. These two modes are restricted to specific areas and are for the most part triggered by plot advancement. Once an FPS sequence has been initiated, the player must complete it in order to be able to return to the main adventure mode. Weapons and items for this mode can be found throughout the stages themselves, as well as bought in shops during exploration.
The fighting sequences are also usually dictated by the plot. They take place on side-scrolling screens and consist of traditional exchanges of punches and kicks, with the goal of depleting the opponent's health bar. Each character has different initial fighting statistics. These can be increased by taking the characters to a training facility and practicing to increase their parameters and subsequent combat performance.
This game is amazing. I have beaten it more than 15 years ago and will never forget it. I played it on an old 14" CRT monitor but i feeled like i was "there", in the city, myself. I really don't understand why this game is so under-rated. It is a mist of adventure with FPS and RPG elements, very well implemented. After all, this was the first project of the Quantic Dream team. They always know how to tell a good story on their games.
In my opinion, this game scores 10/10.
