There's some sort of twisted euphemism here about the greed of man and how big corporations wanna take every bit of you and grind you down into nothing but paste, or in this case ponies made in a factory via a bargain with hell, but I'm too media illiterate to understand. All I know is too shot gun and get job done.

I'm a big fan of standing somewhere in a video game and just staring for a second to appreciate the landscape ahead of me. I appreciate it even more when I know I can go that direction, and more then likely, find something interesting or unique. Northern Journey is incredibly impressive for a one man game dev, and has the charm of someone who put their heart and soul into their project. Its cool to see the passion of one person, and even more impressive how well it works.

It isn't without flaws. Enemies can be janky, I loathed when I didn't quick save in time and had to redo a large chunk of a section, I slipped off cliffs far more then I wanted (but then again I was running all the time), and it became bogged down towards the end. However with how imaginative it was alongside the charm of exploration and the imaginative ideas implemented, I cant help but recommend it.

This game makes you feel every emotion known to existence. Fear, anger, pride, depression, joy, the list runs on. One minute you'll think you're hot ♥♥♥♥ for making it all the way through an area without dying, the next you'll suffer 15 deaths to a boss, barely make a dent in them and then wonder why you were put on this earth to suffer this much. "THAT'S BULL!!!" you'll say to yourself, let out a deep sigh, and then continue on again. So many times will you want to just drop the controller, and yet youll kept going. This process will then rinse and repeat until the end of the game. Dread is what some may feel at the credits, pride maybe even. And despite it all, by the end, you'll want to suffer more. Like the sub to a dominatrix you'll desire the pain... yet pure pleasure of suffering through it all again. Whoops, I digress.

I really mean it when I say there really is nothing like Dark Souls 1. Sure, Fromsoft has made other games just like it, theyve created the same formula in their other games and put new spins on it, and sure those are just as fantastic as DS1... but really nothing really beats this first one. Personally I love Dark Souls 3 the most of the trilogy, but by goodness does the world in DS1 feel so unique. Everything interconnect with one another, youll find an elevator or path that leads to an area you had traveled through a long time ago, but that connection makes backtracking to other places so much better. This theme of interconnection sadly is removed in Dark Souls 2 and 3 which follow a more linear path in progressing., which is a shame. And although the latter half of DS1 is diminished due to time restraints from the development side of things, this sets the bar on games for me. It wasnt the first "Souls" game, but by god did Dark Souls One introduce genre that others have but barely held a candle to when compared to how good this game is.

It pisses me off to hell and back, certain areas are rushed due to restraints and/or are so mind numbingly cruel, and I have definitely felt agony more then I'd like to confess. But then, you take a deep breath, and you proceed to defeat a boss/perfectly clear an area in one shot... by goodness you really get no better feeling. There's a reason this series/genre are so popular.

If you can just take cracks at it, understand your faults and admit your deaths were your faults, and slowly chip through it all, you'll find a game that'll stick with you for a long time.

9/10, Blighttown is the cruelest joke any developer has ever made.

Whats not to say about this game? Its laggy, it glitches constantly, and the people are, often then not, major ♥♥♥♥♥. But there's still something about it, in just how unique it is compared to most games. There's always that looming feeling of dread, that your hours of hardwork of acquiring all the best loot will end by a 12 year old with a pellet rifle. While some might hate the fact that all that time was wasted in getting that loot, for some it just adds to the intensity of the game. Will going into that town be worth the loot? Will you die of thirst before the next well? Is that player trustworthy, or should you fire at them? Every action the player commits to will result in consequences, good or bad. And for that reason I love this game, living on the edge knowing that some hacked up rifle-man may just gun you down around that next corner.

Light to medium 6, please add back the Red Nine its my favorite pistol
