Not fun to play if you want to get better. Bought this game on release and it was a super hype game. I pre-ordered it and was hoping for a fighting game that had deep mechanics and really allowed you to express your style and pace. Instead what I got was a broken product that makes me wonder if Ubisoft is comprised of a monkey bashing his face on a key board and an A+ marketing team. This games depth stops at character select if you choose the new hotness you basically secured yourself a free win because the difference in strength between characters is massive. On the bad side you have characters with no openers that just rely on gimmicks that only work on newer players or just for fun players. On the "how did this make it past dev stage" side you have characters that invalidate their entire faction by pulling some of the best traits from most of their piers and stitching it together in a Frankenstein of a "new" character. But that's just balance and if your looking for fun there's a lot this game has to offer. The combat revolves around a glorified Rock Paper Scissors with timing for instance when an opponent attacks you you have 3 options (on a basic level which don't include characters that can circumvent having to play defense) parry, block, or dodge; blocking is the safest but it nets you the least rewards, parrying is the risky defensive option that can get you a decent punish, and dodging sometimes gets you hit sometimes doesn't and usually doesn't have all that much worth when a normal attack is coming your way. But many times the game forces you to chose an option by implementing a mechanic called "unblockable" which turns this game of Rock Paper Scissors into a game of heads or tails because you have to choose between parrying or attacking. Congrats on your crash course of for honor now you have a choice between duels where you get to play half the time and have a staring contest with some vet of the game who is addicted to the game and just wants to get away from it for the other half or dominion where you get attacked by three feral animals on keyboards that choose the most brain dead and effective character (Either a fat Japanese man and a dominatrix woman that calls you a sheep every 3 seconds) to run around and make you wish that you never picked up a controller.
