I only bought the game because of mods, as the base game is archaic and very limited in terms of scope and features compared to more modern or robust RTS titles.
The modding scene however is honestly amesing and just for that it's worth to buy the game. You have graphical mods that update the game to 4k textures and beutifull ship remodels, you have complete overhauls that bring in tons of new ships and even factions into the game full of custom scenarios, and you even have mods that expand the campaign map to ridicoulus proportions!

An old gem of a game.
The ai is challangingbut doesn't cheat aldough the campaign is a huge slog and kinda basic.
Still for what it is this is a really great strategy game, also unlike in AOE or Stronghold, here you can have 800 INDIVIDUALLY controlled units!!!!!
And combat is slow paced and methodical, ranged units shoot a hundred yard away, the maps are huge, resource gathering takes a while and this all coallesces into an excelent rts where you don't need to spamclick and have 300 APM to be succesfull.

Fun Horror themed survivor game that runs well with decent graphics. The monsters are grotesque the atmosphere is great and the story is not in your face but still engaging and fun to piece together.

The price being so low is a welcome suprise, i tought it was like 25-35 euro range...

Still holds up and i grabbed it for only like 50 cents.
The uprising is the most exciting part of the game for me where despite the game being linear i do feel like fighting in an glorious armed insurrection against tyrants.

Facepunch continue to add things that are fun to the game including many pve content, we have so many fun and uniqe pve objectives now rust is almost playable on pve servers. Pvp is hard but if you have friends you'll have a better chance at coming out on top even if you are new. I recommend learning the ropes on less populated servers first, and learning base building on creative servers cause on the offical servers you'll get eaten alive.
Regarding cheaters, I've encountered 1 or 2 in my +100 hours, so it's not bad, I've also seen the anti cheat at work banning cheaters before i even encounter them (good riddance). All in all Rust is a fairly polished game despite it's engine (bleugh Unity). And it get's content updates, and aldough it's hard you can play it chill if you pick the right servers.

It's a fun game, but keep in mind for good or worse there is NO progression beyond just unlocking athena quests by becoming a pirate legend.
and that is the ONLY gameplay feature you gated behind grinding, everything else is just grinding out cosmetics you like, the fun is in the pve and pvp journeys, and because you are only playing for cosmetics you don't get as mad for losing.
There are the occasional cheaters (only encountered one so far after 120 hours) but the majority of your player interactions will be a fun and hard pvp fight or a chill conversation with fascinating strangers.

Not that easy at first but the game let's you do builds that are sooo broken the only limit is your own CPU power. It's great fun, lots of replayability.

Dead game that ran poorly to begin with and now it just straight up won't work. I crash every 5 minutes, actually unplayable. Mind you i have a good graphics card and CPU and 250 mbit/s broadband....

Attack a large group of bandits from afar. kill half of them with long range weaponry.
Eventually the survivors retreat into a large building behind cover.
I have to advance on multiple enemies so i try to go around to look for an advantegous position,
I find a rookie stalker injured in a smaller building, i give him a health kit and he becomes my ally
Good with an ally i can more easily assault the dug in bandits!
Immidietly hear a bloodsucker scream run into the building and 1 hitting my only ally before i spray it down with my assautl rifle....
damn... i have to do this alone then...
as i enter the bandit infested multi story building i check every corner and occasionally headshot the enemy before they can effectively fire with their smg...
I hear 3 more somewhere, can't find them.
meticioulusly look at every corner.
hear a loud "CHEEEKY BREEEKY!" behind me.
get one shotted by a sawed off despite having decent armor and full hp.
forgot to save in 1 hour
see the bandit ♥♥♥♥ around my corpse and yelling obscenities in russian as i realize my plight at the death screen

Aldough the lag worse than acceptable it can easily be fixed withing settings and launch options.
IDK WHY theese options aren't the default but whatever.... otherwise the game is great
a DLC is free in it wich would cost you for the single player version and you even have extra content in the forms of new reign update.
