This game is... just more fun than I can really justify with words.

It's simply fun.
Best summary I can give is Fallout 76 had a baby with Dying Light...
Except Fallout 76 was the dad who left 20 years ago to buy cigarettes and Once Human remembered and resented everything 76 did wrong, then grew up to be better in literally every single way... And also grew up to be a lightcore SCP fan.

gunplay: Good.
Melee: Good.
'Deviants': Diverse and often extremely useful.
Server Stability: The first time I've seen the servers go down was for scheduled maintenance.
Grind factor: It's a survival game that respects your time. Imagine that.
Microtransactions: They're there if you look for them, but the game won't throw flashy screen-obstructing billboards in your face to remind you that they sell cosmetics... And that's what you can buy with IRL cash. Cosmetics. That's it.

I was pretty skeptical about this one, and probably will remain so.
The microtransactions are openly and shamelessly predatory, which is disgusting to me when comparing it to Warframe.
Honestly... a lot of the content of this game falls short of Warframe... except...
I find it easier to compare the game to D2.
The combat flow and general play is a lot closer to D2, but it DOES borrow(and I use that term generously) a lot of good ideas FROM warframe. So it scratches the Destiny itch very nicely, if you have one. The guns feel punchier, and the fights are a little more involved than the mass-slaughter featured in Warframe. The powers are... somewhat underwhelming compared to Warframe's, but generally a lot more usable than the ones in D2.
So, it's pretty fun to play, but I don't plan to spend a dime on this game unless they fix the fact that you have to purchase multiple packs or go up a price bracket to get anything at all. Even then, it's unlikely because the prices are simply unreasonably high to start with. But I've never minded a grind.

TLDR: Compared to Warframe-generally a downgrade and plays different. Compared to D2-Wholesale upgrade as far as I can tell.

So apparently we can no longer all dive together. Half a victory is still a failure. Sony, fix your sh**.

It's goofy. It's simple. It's fun with friends.
If you're good at making your own fun, and the phrase, "Hold my beer." Is something you find yourself saying... ever...

Give it a shot. The gameplay itself? Not bad. Simple loop, not much really to it... The fun comes from what you do, what your friends do, and the videos you make along the way.

Early Access Review
Look. The launch? It's going roughly. VERY roughly. But the company is doing its best to expand server capacity. They didn't expect the volume of players they got. Steam did not give them details for the number of players that had preordered. Day 1, they... probably actually had a server or two catch literal fire. They're working on it.

For now, logging in takes a while. Staying connected is a little shaky... But the gameplay is solid, some of the characters are fun, the loop is pretty good. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the game with negative reviews isn't going to help things. It'll make the game look unappealing for future players. Rough start, but a lot of promise. Transparent company with quick responses to fixing things and good gameplay. That's my bottom line.

A lot of games can be grindy at times. This game is no exception. There's grinding in heavy doses... But is it really a bad thing if the grind itself is fun most of the time?

This is a free to play game that... does not want to steal your money. They've built up a huge fanbase by being fair to the players. With that fanbase, they have a solid income. You can get almost anything you want without spending a penny on this game. The sole exception? Cosmetics. And even a great many cosmetics are obtainable, again, without spending a cent.

The gameplay loop itself is generally pretty good. The story? Their writing team needs a raise. YMMV, but some of the missions had me near crying. Every time a new story mission drops, I get giddy to come back.

If you haven't played this yet, you should at least try it. Maybe it won't be for you, but hey. It's free to try. It's free to play, and it's free to play done right.

I don't know why I expected the game to be playable. No, it isn't a problem of PC specs. The few times it ran, it ran at 60 fps just fine. This game is a bug-riddled mess. EA ham-fisted their app into its requirements, which is prone to breaking on a constant basis and preventing gameplay. The game is entertaining when it works, but there are many flaws with in-game mechanics, including one character completely breaking your ability to use vehicles for the remainder of the match. This is a thing EA knows about. They do not care enough to prioritize fixing it.

The game is difficult... Not for the PVE side, but the PvP one. The 'safe zones' are exclusively the player hubs for each faction. Step foot outside and you can be killed by players from the opposing faction. Almost all players will shoot on sight. This is not a PVE game. You do not lose your guns, armor or equipment in general when you die, but you lose resources and ammunition. A lot of the mechanics are clunky and unrefined, but the game is fun. Massive selection of firearms to choose from. The player community in the US side is... pretty awful. 99% of them will only give the advice of 'git gud, n00bzor'... So if you have a question, I suggest google. Expect that if you start this game alone, you will NOT make friends along the way. Bring a friend or two with you.

Remember that stealth is your friend. Players cannot kill what they don't see. Snipers are everywhere, but they can't kill you if they don't know you exist. If you fire your gun at all, expect that four or five players will be on top of you within 45 seconds... Friendly or hostile. Play this like you would play DayZ and you will be okay.

Grinding is extensive and time-consuming, and we only have the 'demo' version globally, so many features are outright missing, but the game IS fun if you enjoy DayZ style games. It is also far more forgiving than the aforementioned.

Try it. If you like mechs, first and third person shooters, and PVP, try this game. Don't like Battle Royales? There's a team deathmatch mode. Game gives you your first choice of mech for free, and if you can't decide, go to the training ground to test all of them for free. This game is a lot more fun than it has any right to be.
