Unbelievably buggy mess that has been completely abandoned by Rockstar with little to no fixes for the major crashes and cheaters online. Actually sad because otherwise the story is beyond phenomenal. Get it while it's on sale, but do be warned. This game does just like to not work, and attempting to fix it can become an absolute nightmare of changing files, settings, and reinstalling the game multiple times.

With all the games out that have not only 60 dollar price tags, but even more money to spend on slop like battle passes, and cosmetics locked behind paywalls. Deep rock galactic is there with everything a game is meant to be about in this day and age. It's seriously fun and enjoyable to pick up and play with friends, or even joining others as the community is pretty stellar compared to most. I love this game. Rock and stone!

So I've played all of the Hammerwatch titles, and I was genuinely surprised to find a normal story rpg instead of a roguelike/lite game like the previous 2 titles. However I really did enjoy the game in its entirety, but that doesn't stop the issue's I did notice. Some content felt a tad rushed, Kinda wish there was more progression and like kind of larger side quest lines like the cult in the graveyard keep.

As for gear progression, I kind of found some areas very sparse in terms of enemy level and the associated gear they dropped. Master level gear felt like it came a little late and I was already struggling to find pieces to replace, and crafting didn't seem horribly successful in providing the stat's I went for on rogue. Gaining gold was actually very easy, and I'm not exactly sure why so many people have this as a sore spot.

It's a arpg, grind some and make gold using the various methods provided. I farmed literally. At first I thought I was fulfilling my rogue fantasy and stealing crops, but in reality you sell them to the right shop keepers and make a nice chunk of gold. Farming mobs in an area I just cleared proved fruitful, especially past blackbarrow. Utilizing the coach to the retreat and other "far off" style retreats were always cool and had some sort of fun mechanic associated with them to earn LOTS of gold.

Getting a hold of good gear wasn't the worst thing if you built your class decently. I took advantage of the maze and farmed the boss for extra levels before progressing in the story to prevent myself from dying by getting new gear in a new zone area, but the issue I ran into was all the gear that was "better" but it's stats were naturally still worse than my lower tier gear that had a very good roll on them for a lot of stamina. This can be a good or a bad thing, but I didn't mind as my build came together the more I played, and I felt plenty powerful and balanced in fights.

The story, the gameplay, and the big bad spider in the cave. I found the story decent, entertaining in a comical sense, it doesn't take itself to seriously, and it also doesn't become a massive gag show. I love that it continued off of the first original Hammerwatch. Made my character immediately feel more valuable to me as I immediately chose a rogue as per my first game of Hammerwatch. I feel like the content is pretty consistent, but some places felt more empty later on and I was yearning for more higher level enemies to fight, or new side quests to explore. Lastly end of the game almost felt like it should of had some post game content to do on at least Hammerwatch island to maybe make it your own "base" per the significance of the Island to the name of the first game and the franchise as a whole, but you can sort of get a house there from a quest? So it's not all bad apples.

Honestly it's fun, I feel like there is some bulking to the games content as a whole as I noticed in the trailer that they had Hammerwatch, and Heroes of Hammerwatch running in some base form in this version of their franchise, and I am craving for it and hopefully modding people who make awesome stories too. I look forward to what Crackshell can do and I hope they take the feedback in stride.

Was told to come back and try it again as infinite is "good" now. It's not, unfortunately its a lot better feeling, but what still sucks is the same 5 maps I've already played are still the only maps it seems 343 cares about including. Forge is nuts as usual, but to little to late,
I still feel like there is some hidden mmr system in the game too. It feels absolutely terrible that I do moderately well in a game, then the next 4-6 games are just absolute stomp outs to the point that it makes playing the game feel uncomfortable and frustrating. I understand fragging out sometimes, but just because I frag against some bots doesn't mean I should be matched against players who just completely outmatch the team I get put on. Moving on from that though, That is the other massive issue. Every single game I played where my team was losing, or forced me into a match that was already losing because of the same thing, EVERYONE QUIT. Like seriously, I understand it sucks to lose, but every game my team began losing, or the opposite team began losing. I soon found all of the lobby to be filled with 343 bots 90% of the time.
I love halo, and I always will love halo, but this just still isn't it.

I really, really, really want to like this game. and some of the bosses are absolutely fantastic (all the story/sidequest ones for the most part), but my main prying issue is that there are sub bosses for quests/areas built with no thought in mind to just punish and screw you over for the reason of "lets make it frustrating without any way to fight unless you have op mage skills" as for my aforementioned quotes above, there are multiple encounters in this game meant to keep you on your toes, but some of them are built so vicariously bad that it makes it an extremely frustrating and soul crushing experience, again not because losing to a boss. I even beat Melenia in my 3rd try, but encounters with reused bosses,

a fantastic example of just terrible game design is the "rot" mechanic being as i had to fight an ulcerated tree spirit that not only spits rot, but is in a big pool of it. even after attempting to lure it out (im a melee build) was only met with being tossed off the ledge or being thrown into massive rot ticking damage, even attempting as far as using curables, but still left me with the conundrum of actually hitting the boss. which led to spammy attacks filled with rot. I love the difficulty of the souls games, but a lot of elden ring's "difficulty" derives in just making really crappy and unthoughtful designed encounters in a lot of instances of "lets throw 2-3 of already annoying spammy poorly designed boss type monsters at the player" because thats a fantastic idea for difficulty.

In reality its not difficulty there, difficulty was learning, dodging, and fighting bosses like melenia, godrick, or even the final bosses of the game, or a perfectly done duo boss encounter, Ornstein and Smough from dark souls, and i personally did enjoy the godskin duo, but not super spam and poorly designed reuses of already crap bosses. Honestly in every other aspect, I have loved this game, but there are more times i find myself frustrated over a really poorly done encounter just made to induce rage in a player.

EDITED: PVP on the other hand can be fun when people dont play like asshats, which is never mind you. i actually enjoy being invaded, but every invader comes in pops everything in an attempt to one shot, when im using the tongue to try and get some decent duels in, OR my favorite part is when im kicking the ♥♥♥♥ out of them and as soon as they run out of flasks, they just full close their game so they dont lose. Its extremely frustrating and childish that a lot of people are being such sore losers about invading. (This same scenario as of editing this review has happened 6 times now). I do understand that a lot of invasions are party invasions, but that the same time. if you see one person just bowing for a duel, why be a ♥♥♥♥? PVP in Elden ring is a joke, some much needed love and tuning needs to be done to make it an enjoyable experience for both sides.

I personally recommend this game if you want to follow the story, and unique boss design for said story bosses are amazing{some side ones too), but i cant recommend the rest of the game as most of it is cheap, bad game design, filled with spammy gimmicks that give no thought to certain build types.

(This is my personal opinion, if you don't like it, tough ♥♥♥♥)-the game is good. Don't miss out on it even if you aren't new to the souls games, genuinely try it, but ignore a majority of the loud people on media about this game. there are a lot of gate keeping crybabies who will rip in cause you use something they deem "not proper"

although pso2 nails things like combat, boss fights, and a general sense of progression that feels nice. the opposite can be said for its new NGS counterpart. I want to love this game more than anything, but sega has only shown that they would rather release a terrible unfinished mess and slowly drip "new content" that is just another sparse dead world zone full of reskinned bosses and maybe 2-3 new bosses. The way sega also handles their cash shop is also what is a detriment to the games life. Want to grind your new gear? sure, but theres no target, so you should farm meseta right? sure, but then the shop system is blocked off only for paying players, and what is a lousy excuse for a 3 day pass in a less than favorable "battle pass" makes it all the more frustrating experience done in an attempt to keep players thinking their grind is worthwhile. Sega does know what they are doing in this game. and that's funneling 80% of their resources into their cosmetic/cash shop, which usually would be fine, but since it ties so heavily into the games core economy. it leaves everything at virulent pricing, making it all the more frustrating to grind new gear, which will bring me to my next problem.

With increasing gear and stats being the majority of most rpgs, including pso2. the issue with these semi monthly-quarterly updates. is that the gear you work hard to grind, upgrade, swipe, and other variations that are extremely expensive like augmenting, Will become near obsolete because Sega thinks it is OK to just forcibly power creep. I understand it is a live service game, but power creeping gear that has only been out for a month is such a poor way to do it.
TL;DR- pso2 base is fun and very enjoyable to progress, NGS is less than even a shell of what pso2 should have been. and Sega should be ashamed of this pathetic excuse of a "sequal"

Changing my review because this company is a sellout, and only spends their energy into making more money off the game instead of making the game.
