PSA: Sony has not finished ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with us. They have fired the former community manager of Helldivers 2 and have now made the game unpurchasable in the areas where PSN accounts cannot be made.

The fight has been won today, but the war is not over

Portal Reloaded Is the pinnacle of Free Fan made Portal 2 Mods.

~ The puzzles are hard
~ Adds an entirely new mechanic that it utilizes to the extreme.
~ The writing and jokes are on tier with both Portal games
~ Free Co-Op Mode with More Unique Challenges

Seriously. Play This.

Updating Review:

The more I've thought about it, and upon a second run through, I actually resent this game. It feels just so creatively bankrupt. It's just a collection of things the portal games did but worse, without an understanding of what made them work in the Portal games. Worse references. Worse jokes. The puzzles are annoyingly easy and feel like you're walking in a straight line. I never had a moment where I entered a room and thought "I have no clue how I am going to solve this." There really is no reason to not just replay Portal 1 and 2 again.

The reason I am updating this is because I think it is unfair to make a game immune to criticism because it is free. Something can be both free and disappointing

I really wanted to like this game, hell I didn't even really mind that it was locked on Epic Games for a year, but after all this wait, I gotta say I am thoroughly disappointed. I only got six hours in before biting the bullet and requesting a refund.

The Pros
----------
~ Removing RNG in favour of Bullet Spread is a fantastic idea
~ The Vats Like "Pick Your Shot" system is very cool!
~ You can shoot your own men if they are in your line of fire, making for importance of spacing
~ Crippling Specific Body Parts and Bleedout is fun to play with
~ The factions all seem pretty cool from where I was at.
~ The maps look cool
~ You can shoot then move
~ It's different enough from XCOM to be its own thing while also retaining core ideas you understand

The Cons
----------
~ The game is honestly just insanely easy. The fights are always super manageable and rarely did I ever have any of those "oh ♥♥♥♥" moments XCOM gave me.
~ Their introduction of new content is poorly designed and leads to unfair moments. In XCOM when a new enemy is introduced you are at least told it is new or it has a distinct enough style for the viewer to understand "I am about to fight something with different abilities" in Phoenix Point it just catches you off guard. Surprise! These enemies fire back when you shoot them! Surprise! These guys can shoot 4 times in a row despite looking similar to another enemy that can only fire twice.
~ Research is very vague. While it does sometimes tell you the benefits you get, I ended up missing out on super integral research because I wasn't told its value until a bit too late
~ The sight lines of where you can shoot and where you can't feel very wonky. I can't shoot down at someone directly below me, but if I move one tile to the left I can! Even with the site indicators I sometimes move a soldier to set them up in good sightlines only to discover it wasn't a good area
~ The vehicles just sometimes break. This is what caused me to quit. I did another pastey mission but was gonna get a vehicle out of it. Eventually for no reason the damn thing locked up and I had to restart
~ The maps are way too big for the number of enemies. It's like double the size of XCOM maps with a 1/4 of the enemy
~ The abilities the soldiers get feel very weak or impractical. They get a lot of options but very few feel that strong or are worth using when you could just...shoot the enemy.
~ The customization for soldiers is bad. Like even worse than Enemy Unknown and that's saying something.

Honestly after all this I only have one thing to say. You absolutely should buy XCOM Chimera Squad. While not a full XCOM game it toys around with some new mechanics while retaining the XCOM goodness. It's short cheap and better than this. I'm probably gonna go back to Enemy Within or another round of Chimera Squad, because while I wanted something to fill that itch. Phoenix Point definitely is not the answer. After a long wait and a year trapped in Epic Exclusivity I sadly cannot recommend this game and I really hope that Steam will accept my refund.

EDIT: Refund got declined. Guess I might as well play through the rest cause I own it now.

The only problem right now is the fact you are not playing this game!
