A lot of my friends ask me why I keep buying this game every single year, and I was finally gonna skip a year until I was tempted by a decent sale. So let me explain my thoughts on this year's edition (mostly from the perspective of MyTeam because that's the game mode I've been mostly playing).

Side Note: I almost made this review Not Recommended based off Clutch Time alone (interesting gamemode but 4 pointers are annoying).

So first off I want to say that if there was something in between Recommended and Not Recommended I would probably classify it as that, this is not everyone's cup of tea and you really need to like NBA to enjoy this game. So more so would I recommend it to people who are fans of both NBA and the 2k series? That's also a hard question. Even though I bought it for 60% off, I know this one is not worth full price. I will admit 2k games look pretty similar every year but this year it is near identical in ways. Usually it's the case of they stick with the same UI theme for 2 years running with some minor differences (which is why 2k really should just release a game every two years) but seeing screens like the Ascension Board and The Vault looking exactly the same as last year left a bad taste in my mouth, the very least they can do is change the design just a little to freshen it up. While it might not make it worth full price every single year, it is nice to at least have the illusion that you're playing a slightly different game. But speaking of the difference between 2k22 and 2k21, I will give credit to 2k in their revamping of the Seasons mechanic, I've been especially enjoying the lifetime agendas.

I also want to reiterate the Offline vs Online comparison that most other reviewers have been talking about, but for slightly different reasons. I started off MyTeam offline as I normally do, and was pretty excited. I was winning games, having fun with players I enjoy playing with and getting rewards purely accidentally, including a Sapphire DeAndre Jordan that encouraged me to complete his lifetime agendas and am now having a lot of fun with Amethyst DJ and looking forward to his Diamond card. Then I got a taste of online, and just like every year it is cheesy. I thought maybe Online would be slightly more bearable because I didn't have to play against sweaty children who only have 2k because of the ps4 their parents bought them for being a "good boy" but no those players still exist on PC. Long story short online sucks unless you are sweaty or good enough at the game (and little to no lag which is always been a problem for me here in Aus) that you can easily counter some sweatlord zig-zagging at the 3 point line with Trae. But honestly this is a fun game if you stay offline, especially if you enjoy playing with the cards that you find fun to play with (same thing with MyCareer, I always have preferred to play with a build that suits my play style rather than a build that is op).

Overall, I would recommend this game to 2k fans if you buy it on sale (this sale is the best opportunity or you should just wait until the next game if you don't get it soon imo) because getting this game for 60% off is a decent purchase, full-price I could see myself being quite annoyed I spent $60 USD on this.

On another note, I do say that I'm nearly down completely done with 2k. If 2k23 looks underwhelming (and the pc version isn't upgraded to next-gen) they've lost my support until they fix their ♥♥♥♥. I would much rather spend my money on buying Codemaster's f1 games day one because at least you can see they're making substantial strides to improve the game on a yearly basis.

Tl;Dr Only buy on sale, a little disappointed it feels like a carbon copy of the previous years (much more than previous years), offline can be really fun but online sucks (same story every year imo).
