The UI is at best rated Poor- the tutorial is extremely sparse. Game has issues on leaving focus. It needs some more development time with some Competent UX people before offered for sale. Feels like a Developer Love-fest more than a serious game.,

I tried it. The intro was wayy too cut-scene heavy with very dim graphics. It was really difficult to figure out what I was supposed to do- then every time I managed to get somewhere, there was an unskippable cut scene that stopped play.

And- the tutorials often didn't tell you what you needed to do to get by: I spent 5 minutes trying to exit the stupid little droid's holomap because I hadn't pressed all the WASD keys long enough...

So yes, Its not worth the $5...

IF you're a fan of the old X series- this is an extension of the original. If you're not (and like me, a E:D runaway wanting Walking In Spaceships LIKE THEY FRICKING PROMISED WITH MY FRICKING KICKSTARTER MONEY), this is better!
Its a steeper learning curve than most, but not insurmountable if you work at it. For me, it took about 1 hour to get a feel for the new UI...

The story is great and engaging! Graphics are pretty good: gameplay is ok.

Its somewhat slow in its pacing- I wish it went a touch faster. Also, the tutorial feels like you're moving from QTE to QTE in spots.

DWARF FORTRESS!!!!

Ok- geek spazzing done.
The graphics are a major step up- even from the various graphical pack additions. The control with the mouse is pretty good: it seems a bit sensitive to me, but that might simply be an adjustment issue.
Only two hours in- but everything I've learned from the ascii version carries over in the game play. I'm looking forward to exploring the new features!

Its a fun, huge game. Wish the ship action was a little better, but the worlds are great.

I wish they would have given a "Maybe" option for this- I would say "maybe"

Personally- I like the new content. Its so cool to kill all the people on an outpost, then switching suits and scavenging the place to pieces. Also, I haven't hit too many frame rate drops yet- its been smooth.

The new content is really tough just starting out tho- you need some strategy and/or upgrades before things become easy.

That said- its fairly repetitive, non-procedurally generated, which was a hallmark of E:D before. You've read more about the Odyssey "Similar Planet" generation stuff- thats not a big downcheck for me, but its not good considering how things were before....

Its like they took two steps forward, but a step and a half back.

(And yes, I think it should have been obvious after they just had the Alpha that this would be a beta test- and they should have stated it- Crappy of them)


EDIT: After playing a bit and hearing their "Roadmap"- I have to turn this into a "No". I'm not seeing any of the performance hits that others are- but basically hearing that ship interiors are being pushed off technically forever is ruining this for me. I feel this is incredibly dishonest of them- we've been promised them forever, and to hear some of these weaselly "Community Manager" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ types say "Maybe, if there's enough demand" is just the last ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ straw.

Its too late for me to return this- but save yourself the torture and don't buy it.

Great Game! Get it

Its Mount & Blade- but modernized. While its Early Access- the game is good enough to play, and is evolving really fast. This might be a drawback to some- as you will have to (or want to) restart your game quite frequently.
