Early Access Review
This game is as dead as the dinosaurs, but not cool enough to be in a museum.

I wanted to like this game, but couldn't. It seems to follow the policy of "quanity over quality", in that there is tons of content for sure, but it doesn't make the game any better. Sure, the game has tons of dinosaurs and creatures, but the AI is awful. I've played games from ten years ago with AI equivalent and even better than this.

For example, last I checked, the AI is so dumb that dinos run off cliffs and into water without any hesitation. What do the devs do to fix this? They made them unable to take fall damage and unable to drown. That is insanely dissappointing, escpecially for a game with as much of a budget as this. Surely they can do better, but they didn't.

Another issue with the AI is that you will regularly see something like a single raptor trying to take down an entire t-rex by itself, and simply stays behind it and bites its legs since the t-rex cant turn well enough to turn around and bite it. This kills any sort of immersion I had previously because it's so illogical and bland. I dont want creatures circle-jerking or face-tanking eachother over and over until one dies, I want packs of raptors to pounce, rip, and tear larger dinosaurs, I want triceratops and t-rex to have a proper duel, I want something that is better than this game.

What good is so much content when the base game is mediocre?

Think of it like a buffet with a ton of food and variety, but all of it is kinda old and gross. That's the best way to describe how I feel about this game. It's especially painful when "a living ecosystem" is a highlight of the game, because that is not accurate at all.

I can't support paying 60 dollars for this game. 30, maybe. Wait for a sale.

It's worth noting however that it's still fun-ish with friends, like most subpar games. I'll occasionally boot it up to mess around with friends, but outside of that it's pretty lame. I don't have fun on public servers, and I don't have fun in singleplayer

Decided to get this game in preparation for the upciming prequel. It looked a little weird at first but it ended up being really good. The combat is just where it needs to be - not the focus of gameplay, but not lacking either. Same for stealth. The story isn't the holy grail of stories in videogames, but it's pretty good, and theres always something to keep the player going, like when you read a book and you constantly think "Whats going to happen next? I have to find out!" Also, the soundtrack is unlike anything I've ever heard, and is also quite diverse. I really like it.

However the PC port isn't that great - it works well enough, but if you have a console that can play this game it might be better to just get the game for that instead of buying it on steam.

Early Access Review
To begin, a lot of the negative reviews are just people complaining that the game doesnt run on their grandma's DVD player, the game is too hard, that the devs are meanies, or some other crap that isn't relevant in a review.

I recommend this game to anyone who does not mind dealing with early access bugs and likes dinosaurs/survival games. To make it more simple, I made a short list of goods and bads:

Pros:
- Different dinosaurs follow different surival strategies (some scavenge, some run their prey down, some ambush unsuspecting prey, etc)
- vegetation is very thick in some areas, providing a place to hide/ambush from
- entertaining things to do, such as hunting down other players, forming herds, etc
- promising content for the future
- lots of dinos to choose from (and more to come)
- different factions in the future (humans, tribals, dinos)
________

Cons:
- combat at the moment is lacking things such as locational damage, dino collision (you can walk thru other dinos atm), and trample damage (walking over a small dinosaur will crush it in the future)

ALL OF THE ABOVE CONS WILL BE INGAME EVENTUALLY HOWEVER.
_______________

So overall, I really recommend this game. So if you love dinosaurs/survival games, and aren't afraid to deal with early access, buy the game.

As an old blockland player, I can assure you this game is worth the $10. It has almost unlimited content created by other players you can download, an extremely wide variety of things possible, and fun content. If you love building with legos, you have to try this. It's infinite legos, and you're a minifig who can fit inside all the houses you build and drive the cars you spawn. That's basically my dream game.
