Wasn't a fan.

I tried it for a bit but found it very dry, I feel like the writing needed to be a little more captivating, at least at the start to have something to carry the player through to whatever would be the point of interest eventually.

Good, solid 7/10

Voice acting is 10/10, narrative and plot is interesting. It has some slow points and performance seems horrendously optimized for what's a super popular game (hitching and the like) but worth going through at least once.

Borderline not recommended.

I've played through all of the Monkey Island games and this was the weakest entry yet. I can tell the team wanted to do it justice but it just seems like they're out of ideas. Some of the classic humour is there and shines through but very seldom. The new characters are very dull and the old characters are executed less effectively than in the past. There's nothing offensive or necessarily objectionable, just very underwhelming so a long-time fan. For context, my favourite was MI2, followed by MI1 and MI3. MI4 was ok, then Tales was subpar and then this was below that. I was hoping that the involvement on Ron Gilbert would elevate the end product but I can't say it seems to have made much difference.

The game starts out well enough but gets tedious and repetitive pretty quickly. I wanted to like this game as I really enjoyed the aesthetic and narrator / humour, but that wasn't enough to carry it. I have to say, some of the puzzles also require quite a bit of backtracking and traversal, which only compounds the tedium I was mentioning earlier. I don't think the concept of The Cave is necessarily bad, and some of the puzzles are great but how they decided to execute on it when it's a puzzle game overall is weak. For every 1 part that's good, there's 4 or 5 that are a slog, so the ratio is just too heavy on my patience.

Amazing puzzle game, loved almost everything about it.

The additional themes about questions on consciousness, personhood, morality, etc. I did not expect and loved equally as much. There's some limitation naturally in how much those themes can be explored in a game, but what could be done unilaterally is done really well IMO. Left me thinking about those concepts even outside the game.

The Road to Gehenna Expansion DLC is also really good and highly recommending assuming you enjoyed the base game.

Highly recommended.

It has a learning curve that can be very discouraging. I remember my first playthrough feeling quite frustrated at the bosses as I felt a lot of the lessons learned up to that point didn't seem to apply, so you were trying to learn whole new patterns with a high-price for failure, which in a game like this, I didn't feel was fair (or the right way to go). Once you learn the patterns though (or if you can shrug off the feeling of losing progress at boss fights), it's a great deal of fun. My opinion turned around so much that my initial run I just wanted it to be over and was decidedly not going to go through New Game Plus, to then literally going for every single achievement because I enjoyed the game so much after having a good foundation. Talk about a 180.

In terms of combat, it's a lot better than I had anticipated. It's an offshoot of Ninja Gaiden's intercept mechanic they used to have back during the Hurricane pack days, but Sekiro takes it to a whole new level.

Highly recommended.

If you haven't played a Katamari game, you don't know what you're missing. Lot's of fun, especially if you get to play with someone else and take turns.

I enjoyed the Hector series, so if you liked Ep 1 and 2, no reason you won't like this one.
