No matter what graphics settings, the game looks only slightly better than World of Warcraft Classic, no matter the graphics settings level (something that people keep reporting on forums since 2017, btw). Not to mention the game pulling 14FPS on a computer that can run most of the newest games without much problem.

The forums are full of people offering solutions to this problem, but none seems to work for me. Sorry, I won't jump through the flaming hoops for 10 hours just to try out some new game.

There are many other, better optimized games I prefer to play. Hard pass.

What can I say? I've been playing ADOM since I've heard about it back in 2000. It didn't have any kind of graphics back then, everything (the monsters, the environment and the items) was portrayed by ASCII characters, but what it had, was an enormous world to explore, the complex character creation and skill building and of course the many, many ways to die.
I can't believe I haven't noticed my favourite roguelike is on Steam since 2015. Rectifying that mistake now.

29 hours played, of which 20 wasted on DOCKING. The remaining 9 spent trying to play, constantly being interdicted by some ♥♥♥♥ NPC. I uninstalled when I read the patch notes saying that interdiction won't be that easy anymore (was ever easy? lol). Not to mention the "season pass" mess.
Some might say 29 hours of gameplay was a good trade for 23 Euros, but it's supposed to be "gameplay", "gamestress". Sorry, I can't recomment that game.

Good graphics, fantastic music (country rock in space! - I felt as if I played a lone starship captain in Starcraft universe), good gameplay, low price, what's not to like? If you're looking for some fun space sim that doesn't take itself too seriously, try it out, you won't be disappointed!

[The review edited to reflect the expansion content]
Grim Dawn is a loot-driven ARPG in vein of Titan Quest or Diablo (and it's more Diablo/Diablo 2 than Diablo 3 ;). Set in a bleak and desolate world (fantastic Victorian feel, btw), just after the apocalypse, caused by an invasion of otherworldy malevolent spirits called the Aetherials and just before another apocalypse, planned by another faction of mass murdering worshippers of a cosmic horror called Cthon.

The player character has just recovered from the possession by an Aetherial and is set upon the task of regrouping the remnants of humanity and rebuilding the civilization. All in all, the lore is interesting and immersive, so it's worth reading the quest texts, dialogues and lore notes found through the entire game.

The recent expansion, called Ashes of Malmouth added two new classes: Inquisitor (dual pistols/rifle elemental caster and Necromancer, the pet master.

The player can choose 2 from 8 masteries, to create a character best suited for his/her playstyle: melee, ranged, spellcaster, pet master, assassin, whatever you want.
1. Soldier (heavy armor, shield, melee spec, physical damage)
2. Nightblade (dual wielding rogue archetype)
3. Arcanist (a ranged spellcaster, specializing in elemental and aether magic)
4. Shaman (lightning spells, minions, few sweet support buffs)
5. Occultist (a dark mage specializing in curses, minions, acid attacks and more)
6. Demolitionist (fire themed ranged/melee class, specializing in traps and explosives).
7. Inquisitor (a ranged class, dual wielding pistols or rifles, focusing on elemental/piercing damage)
8. Necromancer (a minion master with many life draining skills).

The classes and skills are mostly well balanced, so almost any class combination is playable. You can further customize your playstyle with Devotion system, by earning skill points that are used to gain passive bonuses or even new and powerful skills.

If by any chance you either screw up the character build or just decide you want to change your playstyle, it is possible to refund the skill points, devotions and attribute points. That way you don't need to create another character.

The game isn't stingy with loot, you can find it off the many and varied monsters, chests, hidden caches, you can craft your own items with the help of your local blacksmith, buy them from the factions vendors (yes, there are factions you can earn reputation with and it's not as tedious as in, let's say WoW) whatever suits you. In addition to weapons, armor and trinkets you can find components that can further enhance your gear.

Did I mention Grim Dawn has tons of replayability value and three "new game+" modes? It also has modding tools and regular free content updates. The game doesn't have many bugs, during 320+ hours of playtime I haven't encountered any. The devs are friendly and in touch with the community, which is also quite friendly and helpful.

I can absolutely recommend this game for all the loot-lovers, especially those turned off by syrupy sweetness of Diablo 3. 10/10

I can't recommend this game for anyone but the most die-hard fans of agonizingly complicated space sims. To complete bad tutorial alone you need at least 2-3 hours (refund window lost ofc), and believe me, you will be so frustrated before you finish it.

The UI is... well, some people described it as "clunky" and "straight from '90s" and it's true. It is as counterintuitive as it can be.

I bought EL fresh after ditching Elite Dangerous, which I thought wasn't that good either, turns out it certainly WAS better than EL.
