This was an incredible game. Atmospheric, with a distinct art style and very soothing music, with lots of worldbuilding and story delivered to us in mostly non-conventional means. But of course, what set it apart from other games was how it tickled the part of my brain absolutely fascinated by language. For context, I've studied languages and translation at University and a polyglot. The way the game intuitively teaches you these fictional languages was honestly fantastic.

Two minor gripes though, but that ultimately did not detract enough from my enjoyment of the game. 1) Getting around is really slow. Especially at the end when you're trying to mop up some last achievements, paired with no map and a bit of a confusing layout in several areas, it took a while to get to places. 2) This game is probably best played in a single sitting or with taking extensive notes, because I found I forgot a lot between play sessions. The game only took me about six hours, so I would recommend playing it on a day when you have little else to do.

All in all, I really enjoyed what this game offered, and I applaud the studio for making it. If you enjoy a bit of a puzzle and love languages, pick this one up! I dare say you won't regret it.

I'm going to echo what many reviews have already said: if I could give it something between positive and negative, that's where my opinion would land. To call it a cozy game though? Hell no, it's definitely not that.

It's not a bad game. Actually, I would say I mostly had fun with it -- but whenever it was frustrating, it was very frustrating. It doesn't hold your hand at any point, which is great once you fully understand how the game works, but not in the beginning when the game is extremely confusing. There were many times when I was just going through the map a dozen times because I didn't know where to go next to progress the story or hoping to stumble on a hidden area (almost impossible to find in some cases without a lategame item that pings you when you're close).

The latest patch ostensibly improves this experience, but it came out at a time that I was already done save for one bugged achievement, so I can't confirm.

Right after I finished it, I considered doing a speedrun, but thinking of going through the early stages again makes me give up on the plan already. I don't think I'll be replaying this game, which is the metric by which I'm going to judge it.

One of the best games I've ever played. Makes me extra proud to be from the same country as Larian Studios.

I really want to like this game, but the finished product has the same hang-ups that I had with the demo: bad writing, very long dialogues up-front when you haven't bonded with the characters yet, awkward exchanges, no choice in what the innkeeper is like, very little challenge or diversity to the drink-making mini game, even taking out any challenge whatsoever to putting clues together into a quest because they're on color-coded pieces of paper...

There is so much of just me clicking through the dialogue because it's in slow, short chunks at once (even at the speediest setting). It doesn't flow well at all, and I'm constantly left feeling like the promise of the game isn't being delivered. I get that it's a visual novel foremost, but then why add the mini game at all? It's so underwhelming.

The music and art are PHENOMENAL, absolutely gorgeous work on that, but the rest of the game is making me sad I backed this and looked forward to it for so long.

Edit 07/20: I have tried repeatedly and with every new patch to get into this, at least for achievement's sake, but between the long-winded dialogue and the zero creative input, it's just impossible to get through. So I've finally decided to just uninstall this game. Worst game 2024.

GOTY 2024 and it won't even fully release this year.

I love this game a lot. It's the best of Overcooked, but with more customization and chances for tactical play. It will still devolve into chaos, especially in a full multiplayer group, but that's the most important part of the fun.

GOTY 2023 let's go

Edit, March 2024: we're seven months after I first played this game and it still has me in a chokehold, I love this game so much.

I have four farms across two platforms, and two of them co-op with entirely different groups, and I'm not getting tired of it in the least. Incredibly relaxing, while offering a continuous challenge in the 100% perfection requirements. Good stuff. Can't believe I slept on it for so long.
