After many of hours in Snowrunner and Expeditions, I can assure you this game is great fun and high quality if you enjoy scouting and exploration.
The bad reviews come from people who expected "Snowrunner 2" and wanted to haul big trailers. That was never the intention for this game and most of the negative reviews are unjust.

• The game has tons of VERY well crafted maps with tons of unique areas/landscapes that are difficult and can feel like an engaging puzzle to traverse.
  
  
• Vehicle customization is in-depth and creating vehicle "builds" is satisfying
  
  
• You don't have to haul trailers across the map, most tools can be carried in your vehicle Inventory, while other larger mission specific items can be carried on your flatbed
