OMORI is a bittersweet game from start to finish, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth playing. Even in the most entertaining areas and scenarios, there is always that looming feeling that not everything is as it seems. Whether it be blatantly obvious with the monochrome OMORI, contrasting with the vibrant colors of the characters and environments that fill the Dream World, or possibly unnoticed due to the subtly of some details. Despite this you still press on and make the most of the adventure. Without exposing too much of the story, the game tells a story about the struggles of loss, the grief that comes with it, and how it is coped with. OMORI deals with some very heavy subjects quite often, these are often the driving force of your advancement in the game. It has amazing imagery, especially in the horror segments, I often found myself genuinely scared for what was going to happen as it kept me guessing. All of this is set to an amazing soundtrack that has some amazing tunes whether it be in battle (the boss themes especially), or comforting overworld themes, and some songs that are just downright terrifying when they fit into the context of the scenario. The combat system is amazing and has some features that are unique to this game, the energy system and the variety it provides is a very refreshing take on the turn-based formula that we are all so used to. Overall, I believe OMORI is a must-play for anyone who enjoys RPGS and are willing to handle some heavy ♥♥♥♥. Do yourself a favor and play it as blind as possible, as its an experience unlike anything else.
