Shadowrun Returns, although not exactly like the previous versions, is a great rendition of the series. The combat system is simple, using a style that resembles XCOM: Enemy Unkown, and brings cover into play. The Karma system is very well done, although more description of the spells before buying them would be nice instead of having to go to a shop to find out. Also there is a lack of major use for a decker in the main game besides a few points. The Sega Genesis version allowed deckers to be of great use and it is sad the main campaign did not really use them. Also the saving system is not forgiving as you cannot manually save, but it does autosave for every section you enter. This is a problem because the main game is not open world, meaning if you forgot to do a side quest or buy an item, I forgot a spell once or twice, you had to continue on anyway. The positive side is the workshop games that can be added, bringing lots of extra play time and different stories to explore. The workshop games are bringing in more weapons, which was desperately needed on the melee side, and greater use for the decker. The main game is fun and very interesting, but I believe the real value lies in the user created workshop.
