I love Lamballs and would kill to protect them. The question is not "How many people would you kill for Lamballs?", it's "How many people would you allow to live?", and the answer is somewhere below 100.

Update: I still love and adore Lamballs, and the Pals in general. Also Nintendo is cringe.

I got it hours after it came out. It's good, albeit ridiculously ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficult, since your character starts off as the world's most braindead ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the Arena Combat mode. Even on Tourist difficulty, I have a hard time doing anything without getting stunlocked by melee enemies and getting shot to pieces by those faggy Agents and their stupid little dinky revolvers in the Sleepwalker chamber. On top of that, trying to properly melee attack a GO3LM into his super brief Rage Mode is like pulling teeth with a broken spork, since you usually only have your fists, and at early levels, trying to get out of melee by the time the GO3LM enters Rage Mode is damn near impossible unless you time it perfectly, since his grab is practically an instant special attack, which prevents your slow, braindead-ass character from being able to get behind the big bastard in time.

TLDR: It's stupidly difficult in a good few aspects, but it's an amazing experience. It's everything I expected from Krinkels and the team, with even more of that extra good ♥♥♥♥ sprinkled on top. I love it to death already, in spite of its infuriatingly difficult aspects, which speaks more to the fact I'm bad at games than anything else. Git gud. Buy and play it NOW.

The following is old information. Read it if you please, but the most positive parts are located a good deal below this.

Let me preface this by saying I love the concept and world of Rustler, and I understand fully that it is a game that was just opened for Early Access.

However, I simply cannot recommend it at this time. I played this game for about 25 minutes and immediately found myself infuriated enough to leave and write this review. I decided to try it out on the easiest difficulty, just to really ease myself into the pool, so to speak. Now, I did not expect a cakewalk, but I also did not expect the rather poor experience I received. Not only does the game kick you right in the sack by forcing you to reload an entire quest after you fail through some BS circumstance, it's also brutal in the sense that trying to run from the guards, even on a horse-drawn cart, is damn near impossible. The guard horses seem far faster than anything you can really get, and every time you try to run, there are fifty other civilians getting in your bloody way and immediately stopping you in your tracks, allowing the guard in question to just blitz over and continuously whittle you down until you get condemned, forcing you to do the entire quest over again.

This game has immense promise, and if it weren't for this experience, I'd have given it towering praise and recommendations. I love the humor, the references, the dialogue, and the story. The world immersed me greatly, and I would love to have played this for longer before becoming frustrated enough to outright quit. But, the gameplay needs to undergo some big improvements before such things can happen. I understand that it is in Early Access, hence why I've tried to make it clear that one should not buy it just yet. This was my experience with Rustler. I hope nobody else had a poor time like I did, as this game shows a lot of good potential.

As improvements are made and the game is eased out of Early Access, I would be more than glad to revisit this game and hopefully change my review. As of now, though, I shall simply have to wait and see. It's been a pleasure, and I wish the developers nothing but the best.

EDIT: March 12, 2021

As of today, March 12, 2021, I've played a good deal more of the game and immersed myself more in it, as well as experienced the changes made to improve the general experience for all players. I cannot commend the development team enough for bothering to take the time out of their days to read and respond to my review in a calm and concise manner. Most devs of bigger projects than this wouldn't be half as dedicated as this team is. I have since changed this review to recommend it. However, I will still leave in my previous grievances to better document my journey with this game. The fighting and horseback systems have already drastically improved, and most previous frustrations I personally had with the game are pretty much evaporated. The quest design has somehow improved even more in my eyes, which I never thought was possible. Is there still a thing or two to polish? Yes. But are pretty much all of the main issues with this game dealt with? Yes, and it's amazing how quickly the devs addressed my grievances as well as the grievances of other players. As of today, I can now most certainly recommend this game to anyone who's into medieval games, goofy times and clownery in general, and an overall style reminiscent of older GTA games. There's a reason this is often called "Medieval GTA", and it more than fits the bill. Get this game while it's still in early access. It is now more than worth it. I have higher hopes for this game than before, and I know for damn sure that the dev team has got this covered.

Long story short, I was kind of wrong at first glance, and I'll admit part of my initial outlook on this was a tad biased. Now, however, after giving this game a good few more tries and playing more of it after the devs worked with me a bit on my own grievances with it, I've flipped my stance around.
