Rumour had it that behind the old diner, leftover hash browns were tossed into the compost heap. It was a risk, but Luke was determined. He crept through the alley, heart pounding, until he spotted the pile. Steam rose faintly from the discarded heap of scraps. And there they were—three half-browned beauties, their crispy edges gleaming in the dim light.
Just as he reached for them, Kevin scurried out, growling defensively. Luke froze, then lunged. A tug-of-war ensued—man versus beast. With a final yank, he claimed his prize and sprinted away, breathless but victorious.
Back at home, he sat by his toaster oven, savouring every bite. Foraging was hard, but the reward was always worth it.
