I bought ESO during a Steam sale. I was a big fan of the Elder Scrolls franchise since Morrowind, and have thought that while the series has been a great single player adventure it was really missing out on a mulitplayer aspect. ...so, mmo.
Is it Skyrim? No. But it is a familiar environment with a rich backstory, and an open play style.

If you are a PvE player most of the areas are PvE, so you are safe. If you are into PvP there are areas dedicated to that or challenge anyone to a duel almost anywhere.

You don't have to pay for a monthly fee, but I like what the subscription offers. Best advice I can offer is if you are interested buy it on sale, and as soon as you are in game look for a guild or someone who has played for a bit and they will most likely guide you in the right direction.
