I am really enjoying Squad so far. I like other FPS games such as CSGO and ARMA 3. Squad seems to elements of both.

Squad is part military sim, and the level of "realism" you want to go to is dependent on which server you join. There are lots of servers, so once you play on a few you can find one with people who play at a level you enjoy. The community on Squad seems to generally be amazing. I really enjoy playing with the guys on the "West Coast Tactical" server, I would highly reccomend you check them out.


Though Squad is a mil sim, it isn't as overwhelming as ARMA. Game rounds have a time limit and ticket limit, whichever you hit first. This makes a military simulation game much much more enjoyable, as people are constantly fighting for an objective. Squad gameplay is based around putting you in a squad of 9 people and working as a squad in a larger military group of squads. This is a really fun aspect of the game as in each squad there are several roles to play (Squad Leader, medic, heavy machine gunner, scout, rifleman, marksman, etc). The game mechanics of Squad keep it more structured than ARMA, while maintaining some of the fun of a military simulator.

At the time of this writing, Squad is still very much in Early Access. The game is not as visually stunning as ARMA, but that doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. My biggest issues visually is the look of the guns, and also the player models which are quite basic compared to ARMA.

Squad is worth a shot if you enjoy ARMA but would like some of the structure brought by faster paced FPS games like CSGO or COD. With Squad you lose some of the minute details of ARMA, but gain a fun gameplay style, interesting squad structure, and a game that you can easily sit down and play for hours that will be slightly different every time. I find that playing Squad with strangers gives me more a sense of enjoyment and accomplishment compared to playing ARMA with strangers, which I would attribute to Squad's gameplay style.

I'd reccomend this game for purchase.
