Tried launching the tutorial, back to main menu after several minutes of loading.
Tried matchmaking, can't find a game and can't cancel matchmaking search.

excellent first impression.

Exploring The Lands Between is a blast. A hidden dungeon here, a massive dragon taking a nap there, a lonely merchant playing a hauntingly sorrowful tune by his campfire, tower ruins, big castles and much, much more...There is always something to find, the map is packed with cool stuff.

The game is downright gorgeous. Nice diversity of environnements and beautiful landscapes, sweet atmosphere of doom and despair, good assortment of ennemy types (with the return of foes from previous Souls titles, like those big eyed frogs that spit clouds of pure death) as to be expected from this developer.

The Dark Souls challenge is there but can be mitigated, if one feels like it, through mechanics that render the game more trivial, namely the spirits of foes that can be summoned to take aggro. I personnaly chose to solo everything for my first run. It was definitely difficult (believe me dear, I KNOW, by now, that you are Malenia, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Blade of Miquella...) but made the victories much more satisfying to me, having played a few Souls games before. And that freedom is what matters. Anyone can choose to enjoy the game the way they want to thanks to its enormous variety of gear, spells and weapons offering many many possibilities in terms of builds and playstyles.

Of course the story and the NPCs questlines are cryptic, in pure Souls fashion, and will require a fair amount of googling to get a good grasp on, PVP appears to be pretty unbalanced at the moment, there are also a few reused bosses and dungeon layouts that may feel a bit lazy and redundant at times but this is nothing compared to the great feelings of adventure, freedom and engagement that this awesome game is capable of providing.

I've heard several times that this might be the best video game ever made and in my opinion, as far as the open world genre is concerned, it cannot be too far from the truth.

Can't wait for the DLCs.
