If your latency hits >100ms, the game will pause until it goes down again. I'm using a wifi extender (not ideal for gaming i know) and for a split second, it goes from 8ms to over 100ms every 5-10 seconds. So the game stutter quite often, becoming unplayable. I also found out that months before this early access, they have predictive network mode for people without LAN connection, basically a compromise to combat this issue (downside being the occasional rare rubber-banding) and the gameplay is streamlined. Unfortunately, this feature is removed. So, if you have less than ideal connection (you can simply ping google.com -t* and see if you have streaks of sub-100ms and occasional >100ms), then you should avoid the game for now. Or you can try the game for under 2 hrs like, see if you have this problem before deciding to issue for a refund.

A shame, really. I really wanted to play the game.

Edit: Since my earlier review, I've dumped another 40 hours or so into the game. I have since fixed the playability issue. I dove deep into my router settings, enabled certain QoS upstream so my line is more stable and reset my router each time the connection gets flaky. On top of that, if the game still has some spike issue, relogin the server sometimes helps.

Now as for the contents, I'm sure there are more qualified people out there for it. In its current state, it's a 6.5 for me.

I was a big fan of rhythm game in the old days of O2Jam. I bought my VR headset for Alyx for the full-fledged VR interactions experience. When I tried Beat Saber demo, I wasn't too impressed of just having control over two static sabers. I put off buying the game until recently and boy oh boy was I wrong; it's fast becoming my favourite VR game! And with the option of downloading custom maps out there (hundreds of them!), I can see myself hooked to the game for months to come.

+ Great game, good system platform, constantly improving and a grand list of items for some trading fun! Especially fun if you have a group of casual and friendly gamer friends to play with

- Steep learning curve; solo would suck when you are grouped up with a bunch of 'elitist' who expect u to perform well
