:DDD its awful. i played it for many hours on my brothers account (i will never pay for this game)

1. THE CAMPAIGN

this isnt a 60 dollar campaign. this isnt even a 30 dollar campaign. its shallow and disappointing. i played every other halo's campaign several times, but this game i uninstalled after beating it so i can make room.

- the soundtrack is not nearly as versatile and mindblowing as the predecessors, its very similar to combat evolved which doesnt do halo infinite any favors with its already-fractured identity problem.
- halo has always had bad boss fights, but they were at least narratively interesting. in halo infinite you basically fight a bunch of the boss's stupid goons then the boss is just a healthbar you shoot at. the design of most of the bosses are cool but they are invariably just the same bullet sponge with a gimmick re-run we've all seen a million times. its lazy.
- the open world: just what id expect from an out-source team responsible for making the open worlds for assassin's creed origins, anthem, and mass effect andromeda. like those games, infinite has a very mediocre open world. an open world isnt an inherently bad thing, but when you choose to do open world, you need to double and triple down on it and commit to it fully. open worlds can be really really epic if you do them right (i.e red dead redemption). halo infinite's open world feels new and i like new things but im not gonna burp and slap my hands together like a toddler when the open world is half assed and bland. it seems to just be a trend to drop lazy open worlds nowadays in games. also, NO COOP? seriously? COOP was a vital, integral part the halo franchise's integrity. its not even difficult to make it work, either. choosing to abscond of COOP was a serious mistake made by uninspired and lazy shot-callers. this game was delayed a full year, launched without forge mode, and still has an unfinished multiplayer (which ill tear apart in the next block). the spectacle of open world was cool at first but it quickly became a repetitive, monotonous and uninteresting deluge of wet toilet paper when looked at with any scrutiny. the whole place looks like copy-pasted forerunner scenery with banished bases spurted into random spots. its literally a big circle with like 3 things to do. even halo 3 had five times the diversity of biomes, while infinite gives you a pretty bland sandbox and hopes you can just entertain yourself. also the ingame marines suck, too, and don't make sense in the narrative. where were all these guys hiding this entire time for like 6 months on an big alien doughnut infested with 8 foot tall technobarbarian murder-monkeys? they;re also slow and have zero personality. halo reach gave them nick names!!! they would be listed in your SQUAD!!! i dont know how they did it, but halo infinite is the first game that made me not give a damn when a marine dies.

- the missions are boring. i can elaborate but instead ill just ask you this: what happened to going on a bridge with a tank and then punching a scarab to death? what happened to going underwater gondolas? what happened to warthog chases? we went from blowing up ENTIRE MEGASTRUCTURES in the past halos to... flying for 4 minutes straight to punch one fusion coil and then get a monologue from Big Evil Bad Guy. its actually dirt. its boring and uninspired. the objectives in missions consist of; kill this guy, press this button, put this half life alyx battery here, 360 rotating cutscene, end of mission. then go back into the lame open world and do it all over again. its brain-off copy-pasted & contrived monotony for a fabricated run-time.

- the story dude its so bad. you're alienated from the phony story this game has. its intentionally boring and lazy in order to appeal to 'game pass people' (which arent real people, those are just concepts and tactics dreamed up by some guys who like making money for delivering bad products). also if you arent a nerd lore fanboy you wont know much of whats going on either. so they try to appeal to non-halo players by giving them a story (half of which occurs OFF SCREEN) that you need to know some lore to even understand... bro, what??? this game is divorced from any shreds of continuity that the other games had been building for 14 years. even the introduction to the game is sloppy. it fails to introduce any semblance of plot andfails to catch up old players, and just has a bunch of 'brooaaah epxlosions' and 'omg chief punched in head!! nooo hes thrown into space by tartarus 2.0!!! omg this guy with a beard is so SAD..!!" its not good man. it feels like theres an entire game that wasn't made between the last halo and this current halo. with every other halo, the intro establishes exactly whats going on pretty right off the rip, and most of them take place like right after eachother. halo infinite has zero momentum or pacing control. you just kinda get spawned in. its disappointing and underwhelming. "humanity is doomed we just lost and the banished fodderized us all" who? i dont care man, who? lost what? we got thrown off a ship. "all the humans are DEAD!" yea but who tho? you dont see anyone but the pilot and copy paste cortana (minus the Great Chest Ahead). imagine if they actually tied in what happened in halo wars and the background of the banished. then, after that, they have you play an intro mission ON THE SHIP, banished attack, and you get to Defend This Station and fight atriox in a boss fight, which you lose, THEN the beginning cutscene actually starts and you get thrown off the ship. they seriously fumbled this whole thing. escharum (the boring hype man they replaced atriox with for whatever reason) isnt even worth mentioning so ill skip over him like a dead squirrel in the road. campaign is indigestible and bad. dont even get me started on the obnoxious forerunner stuff.

2. THE MULTIPLAYER

its not actually terrible. theres still lots of issues... but its for what youd expect. i prefered halo 3s floaty gunplay but thats because im old. i think halo infinite's high mobility shooter was actually well done. the multiplayer gameplayy is actually a little fun. it isnt very halo-y but that doesnt make it unfun. what does make it unfun is...
- lack of content. everything seems to be holding the gameplay back. especially on day 1 there was a bad bad amount of game modes. even now it still lacks some of the goated content like what halo 3 or reach have in their multiplayer.
- the progression system... ohhh my god... nobody asked for this at all. its so demotivating. literally every other halo did this correctly. we all know why they did it this way - they wanted to make progress so slow so you throw more money at them to buy their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful battlepass. epic fortnite model copy paste. yaay profit!!! gone are the days of being expressive and having fun in customization. the battlepass progression system is brutal. remember when on june 14th 2021 when they said "there will be MILLIONS of customization combinations for spartans on day 1 and the customization is a players first mentality!" "if you can unlock something in the battlepass, we're not gonna let any other players circumvent that by purchasing it at the store." i guess its normal for game devs to blatantly lie to people's faces now. theres a lot less variety now. all the systems in place here intentionally and deliberately restrict customization. this is ridiculous and embarrassing. even the content you pay for is pretty awful. who though this was a good idea?

edit: u need a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ college degree to use forge mode now ... how do u fumble FORGE MODE? NOTHING was wrong with previous forge iterations! Nobody asked for this!!!

3. THE END :DD

this game was made by rat people frantically pushing dollar sign buttons with the barely-controlled savagery of a fat person deciding on barbecue sauce.

EDIT (10/1/23) - this is still a good game. it gets updates. but...

its plauged by an incredibly & unpredictably toxic community to the point of being nearly unplayable at times. there are people who scream and shout the hard R at you, people who nonstop teamkill you, people who make it their mission to make the game unenjoyable for you. there are literally people who join lobbies just to mass teamkill everyone, and they can keep doing it over and over because nothing stops a kicked person from rejoining a lobby. i wish i could say 'some' people but at this point these bad actors are the the majority. theres also rarely more than ~50 people playing worldwide, with a -16.99% decrease in total players last month alone. you could hop on and have a pool of only 20 players across all game modes to play with, and 15 of them might be some people or kids who want to call you slurs or be a complete nuisance to you for fun. its really bad. it wasn't great when i wrote my original review but its actually gotten worse.

twisted barrel has done and continues to do nothing to salve this issue. this isnt a new problem - this has been and continues to be a serious problem. theres no server banning, theres no way to identify people (they can just change their tavr username), theres no way to adjust team damage or penalize team-killing, theres no way to report players, nothing. basically just wipe your ass with the steam terms of service and throw it in the garbage if you play this game and be prepared to be called a bunch of slurs because you are from a different country.

there is ZERO moderation to this game at all, none at all.

if you play entirely solo, then you wont encounter any of the community problems... but you kind of lose the whole 'tactical' part of the 'tactical assault' game since your are just trying to be a squishy one-man army.

very good. if you enjoy hardcore-mode insurgency sandstorm or small-unit action in squad, you will like this game. 13 dollars is an incredibly good deal for this game. i will compare & contrast it to Onward heavily. bear in mind, this game is only 50% done, whereas Onward is a completed (or more accurately, abandoned ) game and costs around 30 dollars.

the gun selection on tac assault is about the nearly the same as Onward, but with a little less customization. tac assault's weapons are more like preset kits (but you can choose optics and compensator or suppressor). there are some things that may be missing, like certain weapon types (I.E shotguns, LMGs, etc) or certain attachments (foregrip, underbarrel launcher, etc) but that is to be expected for a 12 dollar game that is only around 50% of it currently done

the gunplay and tactical tool variety (like flashbangs, grenades, shotgun, breaching hammer, door-camera, riot shield) of Tactical Assault is way way way better than Onward. weapons have actual reasonable variations to their performance with respect to their caliber and purpose. sniper rifles beam enemies hard. assault rifles offer solid and controllable volume of fire. SMGs offer dependable CQC reaction capabilities. compared with Onward, the weapons performance of Onward is very wonky, very poorly thought out, with strange, outlandish damage & recoil which bears little, if any, resemblance to their real-life counterparts. the Tactical Assault AI is considerably more satisfying, with relatively fluid (probably motion-captured animations) movements and enhanced behaviors (like taking cover, flanking, running away) and have variable accuracy depending on distance and your own position, whereas Onward's AI is laughably bad. Onward's AI literally slide around with no leg animations, they will just stand in place when you shoot at them, and they will very abruptly snap-aim at you and fire fully automatic with absurd unreasonable accuracy from across the map regardless if its day or night. Tactical Assault lets you customize your appearance, and (the only game that i know of that lets you do this) allows you to customize your kit to your own preferences. you can move your magazine pouches, grenade pouches, rifle-sling position, pistol holster position, knife sheath position and stuff to preferred positions & orientations on your body. the emphasis on teamplay on Tactical Assault is stronger and more rewarding. map design is also considerably more reasonable and makes sense. there are always several different routes and methods of pursuing an objective & clearing buildings. the gameplay also encourages & rewards real-world techniques & serious playstyles, such as flowing entry or buttonhooking, team cohesion/roles (like using dedicated breachers), points of domination, and so on, and does that without heavily compromising other more laid back/casual playstyles.

obviously the game is not perfect, there are some things missing, but they are relatively minor things.
all in all, its a very good game. it shines very well especially when compared to other contemporary VR shooters.
i look forward to seeing it develop further.

tldr: its actually a pretty good game if you only consider the gameplay and mechanics. the main reason i cant recommend the game is because the game is plagued by a morally questionable company with very bad community management, with a rather obvious focus of priority on cosmetic microtransactions over refining core gameplay & story elements. it took them almost 11 months to deliver a lot (but not most) of the gameplay stuff they had promised/advertised at launch. they failed to deliver many of the things they promised, and continue to do so. one of the things that was advertised to us was the presence of a 'central story' headed by the acclaimed 40k novelist Dan Abnett. it is impossible for me to positively recommend this game to people with those glaring problems in mind.

the gameplay is pretty good - at least now. their recent class overhaul is the real reason most people bothered to come back to the game, though your enjoyability of the class overhaul does depend on what class you play. at the time of writing the ogryn class can pretty much wipe their ass with most of the core mechanics of the game and perform most of the duties that other classes are supposed to perform, so they're pretty fun to play, zealot can also be pretty fun to play if you spec talents and choose weapons correctly. psyker is a little more difficult to play but has very good talent specs. veteran is pretty scuffed capabilities wise, with restrictive, flimsy specs when compared directly to other classes, and is difficult to play effectively, regardless of talent specs or gear. just about every other class is able to do most (sometimes all) the veterans job

there will be some pretty obvious spoilers below, though there really isnt many things of substance to spoil here

the games 'story' hasnt advanced at all, if it even had a plot to begin with. little, if anything, has happened or progressed at all narratively, and your character has no tangible impact on the 'story'. as a matter of fact, i dont think any character in the 'story' has had any impact, anywhere. even the traitor had zero tangible impact - whatever traitory stuff they were doing is never explained. we are given only more unanswered questions. they are just some person who gets shot and dies in a cutscene at level 30. you, like me, probably wont even recognize this random jackass in the cutscene. there might as well not even be any story - the only stuff your player character does is participate in repeating missions that have no connection or continuity between them.

this game has no story. all it has is a premise.

obviously, this is super disappointing and underwhelming. now, this wouldn't be a big issue if we hadn't been told to expect things like dan abnett storytelling and narrative progression to be a (verbatim) "central" element of the game. part of the hype was "wooow they got dan abnett on this ♥♥♥♥!!! he wrote eisenhorn!!! this ♥♥♥♥ is gonna be badass!!" but instead you are alienated from the phony and shallow 'story' this game pretends to have. even the introduction to the game is sloppy, it fails to introduce any semblance of overarching plot. its just some event that happens and has no discernible significance besides enabling your character to do missions. all the other following 30 second cutscenes consist of your character blankly staring ahead and then robotically walking away the moment dialogue is over. the game is divorced from its shreds of continuity, and you have zero reason whatsover to be attached to any of the characters, setting and world. "omg atoma is doomed!!! we just lost hive city tertium and the chaos fodderized us all!!!" ...who, what? why do i care man? who? lost what? we just got out of jail. "theres a TRAITOR! they KILLED SOMEONE!" ...yea but who tho? who did they kill? who cares? will this effect the trout population? the supporting characters relationship with you is just them saying 'get gud.' these characters are implied to be doing 'stuff' on their own but these things are practically invisible, and inconsequential. its just indigestible and bad. there's also a grand total of ONE named enemy character in the story - the guy named 'captain wolfer' who breaks out in the intro. the intro insinuates & tries to imply that this 'captain wolfer' is the big bad guy, which is great... except for the fact that you never, ever see or hear about him again. he isnt even one of the 'scab captain' bosses - those bosses are assassination targets that have randomly generated names, and a choice of six personalities. they are faceless healthbars that you shoot at. the final level 30 cutscene involving the traitor was so bad that it made me laugh. did they expect there to be any kind of suspense in that cutscene? i have zero reason or motivation to give a damn about anything in that cutscene or anywhere else at all. a guy putting out a house fire by pissing on it has more chronological framework than this games missions. if we hadn't been told to expect a story, this wouldnt be such a huge disappointment. expecting an actual fleshed out narrative in a game that novelist dan abnett is attached to is why Fatshark advertised his involvement, it implies a fleshed out narrative. arguing otherwise is disingenuous at best. are we entitled because we are disappointed for expecting a story when the existence of central, prevalent story was advertised to us? even L4D had continuity between missions and a cohesive (though somewhat shallow) story connecting it all, and Valve South certainly didn't namedrop famous novelists or say that the game was going to have a story.

the behavior and conduct of fatsharks community managers pretty overtly reveal their attitude towards their playerbase: they really dont give a damn. do not expect to get things that were promised from this company, large or small. they consistently fail to deliver, and, even when they do actually release some good content from their development team, their community management team is quick to take a huge steamy dump all over it. and these are employees! this is supposed to be their job!!! i think its a valid generalization to say that these community managers are among some of the most heavy-handed and unprofessional actors on the platform. the fatshark forums are full of people and posts who have been silently IP-banned from their community discord with no warning over minor transgressions, all of them with zero communication or information. it looks like most of these people have to do detective work to even find out they were banned and who to communicate with to appeal. its just super lazy moderation. you can have a robot do this! its just silly. there's discord servers with four thousand people in them that have unpaid 12 year olds running their moderation that have better communication skills. sometimes i feel like their community managers are just a bunch of gnomes who climb into a trenchcoat and press random buttons. itd explain the super inconsistent state of their conduct and behavior

maybe the real plot was the pearls we clutched along the way

let me preface this by saying i love dead space. the game is great.

..but this port...? definitely not.

The Steam PC Dead Space port is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. The laws of chance show that at least something have gone correctly. Not here. It puts a nail in the coffin of low quality PC ports. Here's why;

1. the mouse input is horrible. it /requires/ a third party mod to actually play. (a dsinput file change)
2. fatal crashing errors. it seems that 80% of the time, when you use an elevator, you will crash. ive experimented with turning vsync on and off, changing my fullscreen status to on or off, changing graphics to low, and even changing resolution to lower numbers. makes little difference. you will crash. i have 30 hours of 'game running time' but /only 6 hours of actually playing./

Don't buy it from steam. Don't buy it at all. Torrent the game for free, or get it on a console. Its not even worth paying 5 bucks. whoever ported this doesn't deserve your money. The company that made the game got closed down by EA, so wherever your money is going, its definitely not to the guys who actually made the game -- just going to the guys who ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up.

great game. I recommend the game. its fun (but not as fun as soulstorm)
But
GW is a scumbag company ran by reptilian lizard people from Catachan who suck the adrenochrome out of bleeding children and nurse the boobs of seventeen titted slaneeshi demons. they shut down and legally bully and intimidate their loving fans with threats of lawsuits and other legal warpcrimes. why do they do this?

because the fans made... fan animations. yes. they shut down Astartes, Emperor Had a Text To Speech Device, The Last Church and so many other classic and amazingly well made warhammer animations because their great efforts to hand-over-fist disenfranchise community creators. they are extremely aggressive in their policy enforcement. this company's hostility has lost them much good will. like most people we dont play because we like GW (nobody gives a damn about this asinine company). we play and make community projects because we love the universe. having to go on some public forum like steam reviews and announce my total displeasure in the company is like a nasty breakup.

while it makes perfect sense for any manufacturer to react swiftly with topics such as counterfeits, and bootlegged copies and mockbusters of products, their stance on fan animations is downright contemptible. this policy update is coming on the heels of the company setting up its own animation department, as it prepares to roll out its new subscription service: Warhammer+ in August. if you have a soul and do not want the fall of the eldar to happen in real life try to help support our fan project community and smear your poopy on GW's moustache

its a fun and very moddable game, but it runs about as well as a power point presentation. it still feels like an early access title and its probably one of the most poorly optimized games in my whole library
