I remember watching Quill18 playing this then unknown game.
I remember going "wtf" when looking at what can only be described as The Matrix.
I also remember the first time launching the game and proceeding to annihilate a couple dozen dwarves after, well, gross mismanagement.
Dwarf Fortress, or as I recently compared to a friend of mine "RimWorld but fantasy and with Z levels times 10", is a masterpiece. Sure, the original controls and overall playability makes new players not invest too much time on it, but now the Steam Release fixes some of those problems. Proper mouse setup, a helpful tutorial, some UI improvements (would love to see many more UI improvements, though) and, I guess most importantly, a brand new graphic tileset where things aren't colored letters and numbers.
Try it out, check a few videos on it, see if it scratches your itches, and remember: losing is fun (you'll have a lot of fun).
