This is a very smooth, well-presented game with amazing atmosphere and imaginative gameplay mechanics, but it is unfortunately both tedious and completely impossible to finish. Not in a "skill issue way", but a "developers too deep in their ARG ballpit" way. You are not presented the information required to solve one of the final puzzles in the game.

Finding the post-game puzzles is a matter of finding a detail in a room that stands out and how it would work as a puzzle, which translates to combing through every single room and still missing half of them without a guide. It doesn't help that some of the puzzles are tied to background decorations so now you're going around trying to find meaning where there is none. By the time i grabbed a guide and found out it would have been impossible without one anyways, i was already tired of the game.

My theory on this game is as follows: A triple-A studio R&D/psyop detachment masquerading as a charming indie game studio sets off to make a roguelite survival craft steam tag rune soup but winds up with too much budget. They manage to divert sufficient funds to procuring enough hard drugs for the entire production cycle, black out, and wake up to having blown everyone out of the water with a triple-A game that contains a remarkable amount of love and fun.

My crystal ball is displaying the words "INCOMING DLC STORM" in capital red but the base game has been great.

Fun but short and linear game that massages your monkey brain with simple pattern recognition puzzles.
Many people complained about the stealth sections and how they detract from the game and i agree, but it's not like they're particularly hard or overstay their welcome or anything.
However, the final parts of the game felt very rushed and unsatisfying compared to everything that came before it. I'd like for the devs to revamp that last part so that it lines up better with what came before it instead of speeding you through to the end.

Delightfully addictive and polished little city builder and resource management game. You control a beaver tribe that survived the minecraftification of earth and outlived humanity and now must survive in a decivilized block world with up to month-long drought cycles. It's full of little features and bits of polish that help mask its early access pimples. You can stack buildings and build upwards! Warehouses show how much stuff has piled up inside! Water simulation (understandably only simulated on a heightmap basis for performance reasons)! The beavers speak Beaver Simlish! Content wise it's pretty barren, but there's external mods on mod.io and a built-in map editor to keep things fresh, with hopefully workshop support coming soon.

The supposed pull of this game is the mystery and horror of being enveloped in a dark unknown, alone on a fishing boat in rough seas. The game delivers on this premise for a short while before its predictable nature reveals itself. Once you've been faced with the horrors, they just become dull roadblocks to a repetitive game. DREDGE shows you the monsters in sequential order and tells you to solve puzzles surrounding them rather than delivering an immersive open-ended experience. Enter the map screen once and you will immediately understand the problem.

Excellent art, visuals, sound design and music, a fun inventory system and plenty of subtle horror all fail to wash away the smell. I finished the game twice and remember plenty of moments i thought were great but nonetheless feel like i played a mediocre game.

Tutorial is poorly constructed, art style very confused and the dev is "inspired" by other games to the point it's distracting. I would say it's wearing its inspirations on its sleeve but the dev reworked the game repeatedly by putting Doom Eternal, Halo, Risk of Rain, Titanfall and that legacy TRON aesthetic from when the game wasn't taking itself seriously in a blender and is now just rolling with one iteration of the result of that

But when you jump, the vertical axis is unlocked so you can do sick flips so the game is actually fun

I've come to the conclusion that i don't like this game. It's not fun.

Sometimes you get the illusion of fun times. This is because for the past 4 hours you have been bored out of your mind watching your character wave their hands around requisitioning items, swinging a sledgehammer at piles of scrap, tapping the side of a bunker wall with a hammer, running around chasing a dot on the radio with your rifle, placing sandbags, barbed wire and tank mines, tossing 150mm shells into a gun firing on a target you can't even see with binoculars, driving a freighter from port to port, extinguishing fires from a recent rocket barrage, having a civil discussion about vehicle ownership (at gunpoint), walking back 20 backpacks worth of battlefield loot and only NOW is it time for action at the front with your teammates coordinating a tank push into an important town. You're now willing to look past all the jank, all the tacked-on convoluted game mechanics, all the lag, how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ flaccid the sound design is and how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ miserable all of this has been because FINALLY there's some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ action! You pushed them out of the town, it's time to build pillboxes and chase dots for a few hours again until you and all your invested time gets turned into paste by the storm cannons in the neighboring region.

Its a medieval combat FPS with some depth and superficial difficulty to it. The game lends itself to random comedic moments; people will sometimes stop attacking eachother and start emoting for hilarity which reminds me of games like TF2 where "having fun" reigns supreme over "playing the game".

If you're willing to put in some time in a custom duel server to get to grips with how the combat system actually works, you'll find "playing the game" wasn't that difficult and actually is quite fun too, but avoid the ranked modes if you don't want hypernatremia.
