I don't write a lot of reviews, but hear me out.

This game is not great. But this game also has a lot of heart in it. The developers clearly enjoyed the GBA Fire Emblem games and wanted to recapture that magic, while missing the mark some of what made those Fire Emblems so good.

Gameplay: It's a classic fire emblem with a few small things changed. I straight up have not figured out the "weapon triangle" equivalent in this game and I have not seen much actual use in trying, as it doesn't seem to difficult overall, past the first 3 or 4 chapters. My only real issue is that my controller does not work the way I expected it to, so I have been playing on mouse and keyboard, which is fine.

Music: I do not want to downplay this when I say the music is to most mediocre soundtrack I have heard since the prominence of flash games. Go find another soundtrack so you don't fall asleep. It just isn't great

Writing/ Story: Story seems a pretty standard affair, nothing seemingly too drastic, but sometimes the writing really shines, while at other points its very meh. Sometimes random events happen that don't make sense, or aren't seemingly thought out. Other times we get frankly HILARIOUS jokes. A few out loud reads before putting the lines in would have done a lot of good for the storytelling.

Characters: Handing me new characters consistently is mildly annoying. Not letting me recruit them myself is holding my hand. Making the new characters almost always better than the equivalent unit I already have has made me not use anyone except the first few people got out of spite. The characters themselves are pretty good overall. I cannot think of one so far where I look at them and ask " Why are you here?" But I dislike intensely how fast they load characters on you. It's literally every chapter.

Overall: Gameplay does stand on its own 2 feet. It hits the mark on making it feel like you are playing a FE game, so long as you gloss over some of the writing and turn off the music. While there are some quite annoying things about the game, I think for a first shot at making a game, it's a really good attempt and an overall decent game. Worth at full price? No. Worth at about $15? If you are tired of replaying Sacred Stones, yes. 6.5/10

It's a weird game, but definitely worth a run through. Occasionally will run back to it for funsies.
