Overwhelming this golden age of nihilism, simulacra dictates our experience. Contorting reality infinitely, reflected cynically through the gnawing consumption and celebration of remakes. Kindled by the vapid embers of nostalgia, Silent Hill 2 becomes another martyr to the flaming ouroboros. Surviving the inferno, James Sutherland’ s beautifully sombre narrative remains compelling, keeping intact the psychological drama and Jungian archetypes. Stripped are the aesthetics, the traumatic veneer melting away to reveal visages that are all too human. Synthesised with unnecessary bloating (double the length) strains the rudimentary combat and pacing of the narrative. Once exhausted the present offering of Silent Hill 2 is passable, but a mimicry of the original subject.
