This 16 bit style point n click by the dev behind Kathy Rain, puts us in the shoe of humourless cop Vera sent to investigate murders in a backwater village in a post'apocalyptic world.

Gameplay-wise it introduces a branching system where your dialogue options will unlock different routes and different special abilities. It's not as exciting as it sounds, you basically get 3 variations of the same persona:
-Humourless and authoritarian
-Serious and humourless
-Kindhearted but yet humourless and serious
Whilst this will change the puzzles you have to complete, the story will essentially remain the same until the multiple choice end.

Unfortunately the game isn't smart enough to escape the usual point and click tropes, with nonsensical combos that will get you pulling your hair out unless you check a walkthrough.

Despite those negative points - and some plot holes the size of Texas - Whispers of a Machine succeeds in telling an original story in a well built world, this gloomy and depressing future rendered by an effective art style, soundtrack, dialogue, as well as some interesting side characters. I definitely recommend playing through it once at least, and there is replay value as well with the branching path..
