Jade empire was the first real RPG I ever played fully and will always have a special place in my heart. While the games setting may not be as impressive nowadays now that Chinese developers are able to release Wuxia rpg’s to the west at the time for a boy growing up in rural south western Ontario fantasy chinos was an exotic and exciting local.

I Originally played this on a friends Xbox that they gave our family due to them getting an Xbox 360. This game was one of four discs that they gave us free of charge, I was enchanted by the combat system not simply being different weapons but also different fighting styles, some even transforming you into monsters!

A really cool hidden gem in BioWares catalog that is sadly forgotten nowadays with a cool original setting that stands out compared to biowares other more traditional franchises. While it might take a little work to get running a charming game that is worth a peek into a transitional period of rpg’s and BioWare the company itself.

Anthology of the killer really brought me back to me being at a punk art school when I was 18. The story details our protagonist BB a young adult living in the worst city in the world where the murder rate is absurdly high.

Bb encounters loony deranged killers in every episode, with scenarios from working at a call center that throws a party for a serial killer due to their role in increasing life insurance sales to being chased by a ghost who is attempting to turn the entire city into a deranged water park.

The game can be funny yet chilling at the same time, the art direction producing unforgettable scenes and locations. When BB was stuck in the college party murder orgy for serial killers I was legitimately terrified by the madness of decadence, blood and death.

The art while crude is very expressive and fun, with the entire game feeling like you are at a absurdist abstract art exhibit each level being a different painting on display. The humour can sometimes get a little too meta, esoteric and academic for me, but still stays funny for the entire game, feeling like a mix of early Nickelodeon and an obscure music zine.

An unforgettable experience.

Especially with mods, Civilization IV colonization is a fantastic resource management strategy game for creating a fledging colony into an independent nation.

Like vanilla civ 4 the late game can start to have a little too much micromanagement with doom stacks and resource management. It also is disappointing that other colonial powers and natives don’t fight each other it’s a great game if you are in the mood for a game set in the time period of colonial American settlement.

The way the game treats native Americans and depicts them can be pretty poor, ignoring historical realities with blanket generalizations as well ignoring the elephant in the room (slavery) but despite these problems the game with mods can be a real classic “just one more turn” experience.

This game is so good, by far being the best series made for hosted games. The depth of the characters, the customization options, the way it handles gender identity and depression, all while being set into a cool alt history super hero cyberpunk setting make it one of my favourite works of fiction out there.

The story is told in first person and the players past is pretty established. The player decides how the protagonist reacts to develops and what motivates a former telepathic super hero to become a villain 🦹‍♀️ you can choose the gender of the romantic interests or do it randomly. I did mine randomly and now I can’t imagine the charicters any other way. The way even the smallest actions effects the outcome of the story is staggering. Even if you are burned out by super hero stories I still highly recommend it.

Caravaner 2 is a really cool “caravan sim” game that reminded me of playing sunless seas. Except instead of a sea captain you are a trader with a donkey and a cart full of green beans, water, gasoline, scrap and wool.

I really loved the atmosphere of being a trader in a post apocalyptic setting, trying to find the best routes and fighting off raiders. The story content is fun too with lots of fallout vibes and the setting is fun with lots of cool villages and factions. The animals trade goods and equipment you can buy is solid, really allowing you to customize your crew to fulfill whatever trading strategy you prefer.

After the first area though I got kind of burnt out and I wish there was a better way to find out prices in other settlements like through rumours instead of tracking from place to place and recording the prices. Though I did not finish the story of the game my time playing was well worth it and I am sure I will return to the wastes with my donkey ready to make a deal with a tribe of jolly green giant worshipers.

A very charming and affordable puzzle that has you recreate classic kooky cartoon inventions. When I was a kid there was a collection of Rube goldberg cartoons at the local library so I might be the perfect audience for this type of game. I do feel like they could have got a bigger soundtrack... A MUST for fans of early american comics. I love how they show you the original cartoon if you get perfect on a puzzle.

It had been some time since I had read some work by Ryukishi07 and this tale of horror really reminded me of a shorter high school version of higurashi with more fantastical elements.

Many themes that appeared in higurashi reappeared in Iwaihime like characters anime like quirks being revealed as signs of hidden trauma and hints of a dark and troubled past. While not as long as mysterious as Higurashi Iwaihime characters are able to stand out on its own and seeing Ryukishi07 write older characters in a modern setting was very refreshing. Sometimes parts of the story were confusing but that fit the theme of nightmares and dreams where you could not tell what was really and what was hauntings.


I loved the ending slice of life arc that gets more and more ridiculous. Unlike higurahsi since the story was shorter it did not feel as jarring having ridiculous things occur after such horror and madness. Though as a whole I still prefer the cast and plot of higurashi it was less uncomfortable with an older cast to have fan service, dark subjects and horrifying things occur to the main characters. I also feel like the ending was a lot better then the one for higurashi, perhaps showcasing a more experienced writor. An enjoyable horror story that won’t set the world on fire but doesn’t overstay it’s welcome.

I found this one went a little too long compared to the previous games. I guess that's what I get for playing all the games in one sitting. Still a interesting way to pass the time. Secret word: Angel, grateful, greed.

A improvement over the last game, I liked the variety in the questions. Secret word is grateful.

A fun personality test, the ending for me really resonated with me. I teared up. Really did not like the spooky graphics though. really out of place and gross. Secret Word:angel.
