I've played this game for way too long. Ten years of love and inescapable addiction to the fantastic artstyle and sound design of the game.

Team Fortress 2 at it's surface is an easy to pick up class-based team shooter where you can run around and shoot the bad guys all while picking up brief-cases like their flags and shoving a cart that's carrying a megaton bomb on it as your escort mission.
Once you start playing you realize just how absurdly deep the actual game mechanics are and how there are people who have put upwards of tens of thousands of hours into the game. And the gameplay isn't even the best part, it's just the icing on the best damn cake ever baked. Everything about Team Fortress 2 is iconic and if you've ever been on the internet chances are you've heard of the game or seen something related to it somehow. Every character is wonderfully crafted, distinct from one another, and unique in personality in such a hilarious way.

For a Free to Play game? Hell of a good time to play.
There's only really a few downsides, and they can be quite crippling unfortunately.
Team Fortress 2 is infested with Bots and Cheaters, who will certainly ruin casual play for everyone and many community servers as well. The dev team for Team Fortress 2 has also slowed down significantly to the point of a sloth's crawl to keep the game updated, and by God the amount of bugs in certain areas of the game can be utterly gamebreaking at times.
If you can put up with that (Like I can) then it can offer you quite easily a few thousand hours worth of gameplay if you really want to invest your time into it.

Garry's Mod is at it's core a toybox-style modification of the source engine. The potential this toy has is absolutely limitless and by it's design is the most infinitely replayable (Or simply just playable) game to ever exist. Hundreds of thousands of addons to try out and use through the game's Steam Workshop (With more being added constantly by the community) that can change the game in pretty much every single way possible. I picked the game up back in 2011 and I haven't found a game in the last ten years that has effectively been as open as Garry's Mod is.
Genuinely and seriously worth playing, especially for ten dollars base, with it regularly going on-sale.
Oh, and, you can basically build any game you want in it if you try hard enough, that's cool too.
