So I'm really enjoying this game. The single-player feels like the best parts of Skyrim meets the best parts of Minecraft, with a far deeper sense of exploration than either.

One note (and this isn't a criticism or complaint, more an observation) is that tech unlocks feel both extremely satisfying and extremely grindy. I'm about 23 hours in, but would like to use an example from the first hour or two: deer hides and leather scraps.

In order to get the first real set of armor and weapons, I found myself focusing less on the exploratory aspects of the game and more on hunting down the specific mobs that dropped what I needed. I found that the enjoyment that I gained in teching up was enjoyment that I lost from the neat exploration elements that the game provides.

The other side of this is that it always feels like there's something to do. After the first handful of hours, I found that there were enough resources available that I was always compelled to collect something for a gear upgrade, but not so many that I felt overwhelmed at how much I had to do.

The only real place that I'd recommend for improvement would be the combat system. There are plenty of choices for weapons, but defenses seem to revolve pretty substantially around shields. Whether or not this is intended, it makes any two-handed weapons feel like you're putting yourself at a disadvantage. That's not to say that you can't use two-handed weapons, but you need to approach all combat situations much more carefully.

I'd give this game a solid 8/10 - I'm finding everything very enjoyable, and I'm radically impressed that this game is as good as it is while still being early access.

Game is great. Better than 1 and 3, although I think you need a background of the story from 1 to appreciate it
