The best co-operative board game I have ever played. The interaction of the app with the boardgame is perfectly synergised, almost acting as though a DM in a tabletop RPG. Although it shows me having played 12 hours, I have played many more hours using the google playstore version of this app (I use this steam version on a 55 inch 4k oled tv which is viable for our playformat). All the expansions add quality content, especially the newest (Spreading War) The miniatures quality is top notch, as expected, and the map tile system is genius. Genuinely genius.

Stellaris is a compelling Space empire builder, with heavy reliance on strategy and diplomacy. You have the freedom to create your own species from a wide selection of options, including preferred planet type, system of government, and other flavourful unique traits.Starting with a single system, with scope to expand to a complete galaxy, promotes an exploratory instinct, and quick reactions. Running in real time (not turn based) you feel that you are in a race to grab the most important surrounding planets, especially those that lock off hyperlanes which connect systems to each other. The war aspect of the game is intuitive and interesting, however it can become tedious if you are left chasing down a small fleet that are just that little bit faster than you.

I shall provide a graded scoring system below for specific elements:

Graphics: B+
Audio: A
Interface: B
Customisation: A+
Learning curve: B
Combat: B-

The first year of release of this game was terrible, so much so that it damaged the reputation of the company, especially when comparing the release copy to what the devs were saying in their interviews/updates. However, since then, Creative Assembley have done more than enough to right the wrongs and patch the leaks in production quality, and now the game is in a much more stable, comfortable, and fun place.

In summary, the game is now in the best place it has been in terms of quality, and with the promise of the new dlc "Empire Divided", and an update that completely rehauls the politics system, this game is now a must buy for any total war fan.

CA have really pushed the limits of their engine in this revisit to the Sengoku Jidai period in Japan.
The game keeps a similar mechanic to that of the other games, but this time has severely improved the campaign ai.
The Campaign map is highly detailed, and is accurate to the time period, as is the castle building and recruiting system.
Each clan has specific bonuses, for example, the Oda having cheaper costing ashigaru that have better morale.
Also, because the campaign have better Ai, you are forced to take more care in how you use your turn, sometimes having to turn to diplomacy, which has also been improved by adding the likely reaction to your offers and demands.

The battle system is a bit more responsive, and the sea battles are a large improvement on the other games. Not to forget the multiplayer, which has been expanded upon to become another major part of the game.

At an average playthrough time at about 15+ hours, this game is well worth buying
