First of all I'd like to start with saying I rarely give reviews for games.

I've always been a platformer lover, and played almost all of them going from DK/Crash Bandicoot/Rayman to SMB/I Wanna Be The Boshy and each and everyone one of them had a unique feel and something niche about them. Some of them I've quit mid way, others I've finished partially and only a couple I've played for the full 100%.

When it comes to Hollow Knight, the people from Team Cherry really hit the spot for me, and I'm guessing for many other platformer lovers. The game offers a nice balance in fast pace combat, platforming, engaging semi non-linear story line.

The fast paced combat style of this game is something really, really amazing. The game offers a variety of ways for combat to be done, whether it's modifying your character via charms, from ground to airial combat accordingly to the biome and the surroundings you are currently at or the boss you are fighting against and the various ways he can be dealt with. Some might argue that the learning curve and the difficulty of this game is steep, which in some ways it might be true, but the "main story" line provides combat and bosses that are not the toughest cookies out there and can managed by most players after a bit of practise and adaptation. When it comes to the "non-story" bosses, some of them can be tough I will agree, but then again those are optional, they do offer some lore behind them which can be a problem for the more casual players - but we all can agree that when you defeat a difficult boss after some time, the feeling that you achieved that is great, and wouldn't it be better if you get rewarded by some nice earned lore? :)

The platforming of this game is on spot as well. It offers the typical quick step platforming and a lot of non accessible areas that require you to backtrack later in the game to get to that spot, which in my opinion is a great feature for every platformer because you feel that sense of accomplishment, it is as if your character is evolving/improving as the story progresses. Something that they did well in this game is that you don't have to upgrade/evolve everything to get to the finish line, it's all up to you how much of platforming you can and want to do.

The story of this game is something peculiar. At first, you are just thrown in a world with some random masked man, who talk in weird ways, in non human voices and are starttled by what's happening around them. You feel confused, you don't seem to find any links in how the story progresses and you think, heck - it's a platformers how much story it can have? The more and more you progress the story unfolds in a way in which you are your own weaver of time, and you decide what's going to happen next and what part of the story you are going to progress. As the game progresses you meet a lot of characters who have interesting stories to tell, you are introduced with mechanics that put emphasis on even more lore and get you overwhelmed with info. The ambient of the game is unique as well. From joyful to eerie biomes, the music and the ambient changes from 1-100 in a split second it pushes a new level of immerseful storyline. To cut it short the story of the game is good, you are given vague information about what has happened with their world, and you make your own story.

All in all, this game is one of those games that even when you are done - you want more, you want to 100% it - and luckily enough the game offers more. They have offered 3 free DLCs by now and are giving their all to this game - Team Cherry deserves all the glory for this masterpiece of a game that they have provided us.

I would strongly suggest that you play this game, even if you are not a platformer fan - this game is something else.
