MGS fan here and I can sadly say after the countless hours on this game and really trying to even like it that IT IS ASS. Story line is a mess and characters forgettable. Boss fights, goofy secrets,unique encounters and a world that feels alive like previous MGS games? Forget it. MGS 3 has a more alive world than this empty soulless mess. The upgrading, mother base and other features are super cool but overshadowed by the core game play. Stealth. I'll be couched in front of a enemy and nothing but stood up I'll get spotted 300m away through terrain and walls at times. It feels so inconsistent that the joy of stealthing like in previous games to unlock stealth cloaking is just ruined. Just bring fire power and the missions are too easy.

I wanted to love the game like I did older ones, unlocky stealth by not being spotted once or infinite ammo bandanna from not killing (all these hidden details). But the game is charmless and baron and just becomes a boring slog for resource. It has some cool mechanics but even they become old fast and missions become tedious involving 70% travelling, 10% fighting and 20% scouting.

All in all stop at MGS 4 and enjoy the creativeness.

Played from alpha, it's alright. Improved.
