I had never played an Armored Core game before this one (I have always been a PC player) But I'd always loved the aesthetic, so I picked it up on sale on the recommendation of a friend who has been playing since AC1. Now that I've 100%'d the game I feel that I can say this is the best single player experience I've had since Metro: Last Light. I would recommend this game to anyone who's a fan of the mecha genre who want a deep, thoughtful story that doesn't spoonfeed you like a child.

Very good even as the base game, but even better with the 3rd party Forged Alliance Forever application. Multiplayer still kicks ass, and the visuals have aged very well despite the games age. Gameplay is very rewarding and engaging, especially against human players. If you want high-level competitive play or are just looking to play some casual games with friends against AI, this game is damn near perfect.

Nothing is more fun than getting killed by a friendly artillery strike but still beating back the imperialist Americans because of it.

While not long to do a single playthrough (4-5 hours), it had me hooked after the first 3 minutes up until the credits began to roll. Worth every cent I spent on it.

I think I saw a anime like this once...

But on a serious note, the story and the voice acting arn't the ebst, there are some probelms with GFWL, but its actually a pretty decent port, and runs very smooth almost the whole time I've played it. The audio is superb in every way (except above voice acting), and the visuals are much better than the consoles this game migrated from. Gameplay is very different from standard shooters, and the multiplayer options are very large and interchangable.

Definitely of the most under-rated games in recent memory.

Alright, even though this game was made in '09, has graphics that would make make a grandmother have a stroke, AI that, in comparison to other games that were released in the same time frame, were clunky and irrational most of the time. Also included is a server browser system that has been known to drive people to insanity.

Few games have given me more enjoyment than Killing Floor.

The game is very simplistic in its objective: See zombie, shoot zombie, get paid, buy bigger guns, repeat. Even though this may seem boring while you sit there, in your "gaming chair", waiting for your next game of Dota 2 to load, it really isn't. There is nothing more enjoyable and suspenceful than playing with a group of 5 friends (the game allows 6 people in standard servers), everyone dying but you on wave 10 on suicidal, out of ammo against 2 fleshpunds and about 30 other Zeds.

The gameplay is very enjoyable, especially on higher difficulties, like suicidal or HoE (Hell on Earth), where teamwork is absolutely essential for survival for all 10 waves. There are 7 perks, each has its own ablilities (like the Berzerker, which does bonus melee damage) and uses for helping your squad survive the onslaught of horrific freaks you're up against. The maps are varied and requie you to shose your perks accordingly, depending on if its a day or night map, or open space or tight corridors. The goal of Killing Floor is to survie all 10 waves to get to wave 11, which is the main freak leader himself: the Patriarch. If you kill him (no mercy allowed), your squad survives. If all of you die in the course of 1 round, you lose. At the end of each round, any dead players respawn, but only if there are still surviving players.

Tripwire has done a very good job of keeping players in the game durring its 5 years of release. They have done special events, such as The Twisted Christmas Event, or Hillbilly Horror (Halloween). Also, a steady drip of new maps, characters, and guns have fallen into the hands of eagerly awaiting fans, most of which are given freely, or in-game achievement unlocks. Even though there are several packs of guns only available through paid DLC, they do not affect game ballance in the least, but only serve to vary gameplay and team tactics. Also included is the complete is a very extensive set of od tools, allowing useres to create vurtually anything they want with the game; now that Killing Floor has Workshop, a hwole new relm of content has been opend to players.

Over all, this game has kept me satified for over a year, as well as Tripwire gaining my respect for thier devotion to their playerbase. Alright Tripwire, time to bring Killing Floor 2 to the eagerly awating masses.

Early Access Review
EDIT: 10/17/2024
We're so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ back Hawken bros.

EDIT: 12/8/2017

As of January 2nd, the devs will be shutting down the PC servers and foccusing on consoles only. A sad way to go for a game that has as much potential that it does.

It's been a long ride for me, from Alpha2 to the current build, and it was a blast the whole way. I'll see you in Valhalla, old friend.

----------------------

Well, now that I have a decent amount of time in HAWKEN, I might as well wright a decent review for it. First of all, there are very few shooters that I can think of that are like it: a first-person, fast paced mech shooter. The concept is very interesting, the mech designs are unique and thought out, and the weapons are (for the most part) balanced. The sound design is fantastic, with missiles whooshing, bullets pinging and ringing, Thumping explosions are very satisfying, the feet of your mech thumping methodically on the ground, ad the ambience of the environment surrounding you during rare moments of silence. The graphics are steller, and even though im only running it on a mix of medium/high settings, it still looks gorgeous, considering it is several years old already.

I would talk about how the devs have abandoned the game (they did), but that doesn't matter now, as a new studio has purchased the I.P., and from the recent posts on the HAWKEN Facebook page, it seems like the new devs have their heads screwed on straight about the destiny of HAWKEN. Having been playing HAWKEN on and off since Alpha 2, I have rekindled hope for this game to become something great again. I just hope they nerf the Incinerator and Scout :)

The game has several game modes, inculding the classic Team Deathmatch as well as free-for-all Deathmatch. It has a special co-op mode for fighting waves of A.I. drones with 3 of your friends, and a mode called Siege (don't play this mode, it is either super easy or a pitiful smackdown for you), that involves collecting energy to lauch a 'battleship' which then attacked the enemy's base; the first team to have their base destroyed loses.

The small community of driven players have kept this game alive, and the new devs say they are going to use us to help shape HAWKEN's future, so who know what happens next?

Good gameplay, good graphics, a still-kicking population after over 4 years. DICE's last best game. Cool guns. Hackusations, bad drivers/pilots, the works.
