Being new to the Bioshock series I got this in a package pickup and thought I would give it a try. Five minutes in and the screen tearing and FPS drops are so bad that I die to the first solo enemy I encounter. Twice.

The bugs and issues make this game unplayable and some investigation reveals that I am not the only one with these issues. While the sound is great and I've heard a lot of nostalgia based fandom fawning over the Bioshock series. If this is the benchmark for the series then I am doubtful I will continue further into this game franchies.

The Final Cut of the IAofVan Helsing series brought the multiple games together into a single seamless narrative; which is a huge kudos to the developers and the people who worked on this game.

Overall I found the story to be engaging and fun to play through. The mix of quests and hidden content made the world worth exploring - and the fact that a lot of the hidden content were related to teases about other popular games or references to popular culture made each one a joy to discover. Additionally, I found the music quite enjoyable for Van Helsing. On most games I turn the music off and I did not feel the need to with this game. The voice acting was also very well done - with each character having their own unique voice and none of the actors sounding bored or tired in the delivery of their character's dialogue.

Gameplay is conventional towards any other Action RPG in the genre of Diablo. Point and click, fire abilities, kill packs of things, watch the loot rain. Speaking of the loot. I believe that was probably one of the drawbacks to the game. While the loot is plentiful I found that it was difficult finding gear to upgrade into unless I was hitting level gaps between pieces of 20+ or more. There is a limited crafting system here but it only works for normal and the highest tier magic items, leaving two tiers to be nothing more than sales fodder junk. The gem style upgrade system with Essences was a unique way to handle gear customization and helped with the lack of consistent gearing upgrades.

If you like ARPGs and Diablo style games. I recommend picking up the Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing and giving it a playthrough. Well worth the time investment to play this game to completion.

The Banner Saga is a game that delivers mediocre strategic gameplay with lack luster game mechanics. The game drives you into making choices between being able to use the primary resource to feed your people or level up your characters. But no amount of leveling prepares you for the random events that can kill off a character suddenly, without warning, and strip you of a vital character you might have just spent the past hour leveling. While I do not mind random events being a detriment in a game - insta death choices are fairly often additional signs of poor game design.

The best things about this game is the music and the compelling storyline. Place those into a better mechanically designed game and this would be the indie darling that everyone else believes it is.

Mars War Logs is a game that tries very hard to be appealing and pleasing. At the outset the story plot seems interesting and the introduction to the characters are equally intriguing. Even with the bad voice acting the premise of the game shows a lot of promise.

That is about the extent of what is good about this game for Spiders' efforts. The biggest flaw with this game is in the combat itself. The method of combat is clunky and oftentimes buggy. Add to that sudden spikes in difficulty curves makes this bad style of gameplay nearly unbearable to deal with. Drops in Framerate giving the game lag, and leading to repeat deaths in the most random of areas makes this an unpleasant and unenjoyable adventure.

At even 14.99 for the price point the game is not worth the cost. Wait for it to go on sale and be prepared for an uphill climb towards enjoyment.

On the surface, Craft the World seems like a Terraria lite kind of game. I would compare it to a mix of Terraria and Game of Dwarves. On its own Craft the World is a creative digging/crafting game where you encourage your motley group of dwarves to do your bidding as you tend to their needs; things like comfort, food, and guiding them for self-defense.

The game is brightly animated with an easy to follow control scheme. The interface alerts you to the vital statistics of your dwarves when they are low health, when they die, and even if they are drowning.

The game itself keeps the challenge interesting with a nighttime cycle and then an occasional evil portal that wll open up and spawn groups of enemies. Encouraging a somewhat tactical mindset while playing the game when it comes to where and how you construct the home for your dwarves.

Overall I find this game amazingly fun to play and have lost quite a few hours with it since purchasing it. If you're unsure about what the game is like you can also find some Let's Plays by Splattercat, who has done a great job in the past of showcasing the quality and enjoyment of the game.

Gnomoria is a very well crafted city builder that does exactly what it should. Built for its time it lacks some of the sophistication that other managerial city builds have but the game is tight in its functions and quite fun.

In fact the only downside I found to the game was the learning curve which required you to consult the Wiki to learn certain things, and how the game would crash based on unexpected triggers. In this case my game, no matter what save file or play-through would crash if I equipped any single gnome with malachite weapons and/or armor. And another one I had was on another saved game when I'd replace any single instance of a wall with water carved bauxite.

A sequel to the game with a new interface and more functional options such as better time management for squad training, a function to search your population by a particular skill or skill set, and indicators on what jobs might increase what skills and stats. I say this on the caveat I've not investigated if the game can be modded or if any are available.

Otherwise, I've put over 100 hours into the game. Its fun and worth the investment at the price it's at and moreso when on sale.

Fallout New Vegas is a game set in the post apocalyptic wasteland of the Mojave leading up into city of Las Vegas. The storyline, in part, is the backdrop as a primary point of conflict for the New Californian Republic military and a rogue armed warlord Caesar and his Legion, styalized on Roman themes; with you the unlucky courier being thrown into the mix. What sets up a rather fantastic premise for a game based on the post apocalyptic genre turns into a game that begins to overstay its welcome going past the 60 hour mark.

The first issue with the game is the tacked on SPECIAL and Skill system. This system setup seems to promote RPG elements but then turns out to have no great bearing on any of the gameplay aspects outside of crafting, NPC dialogue, lockpicking, and use of the VATS system - thus making the leveling portion of that aspect of the game feel needlessly wasted and leaving only the selection of Perks that can be chosen every other level to feel useful. In fact the game could do away with the SPECIAL and Skills entirely and the combat, the primary source of gameplay, would not miss it.

Which leads us into the other problem with Fallout New Vegas. It fails on attempting to be an enjoyable shooter. Basing the game's weapon diversity on ammunition type creates inexplicable imbalances for why one rifle that fires 5.56mm has a grossly lower DPS than another rifle that fires 5.56mm; once we step outside of the SPECIAL/Skills system that poorly attempts to create a scaling value of arbitrary worth in weapons for a sense of RPG style progression. One thing that the developers of Fallout New Vegas did get right were the weapons. From standard to unique, there is a wide variety of weaponry that will please anyone who enjoys taking a variety of pew pew out to pop open heads with - from plasma to laser weaponry, to wildwest style cowboy repeaters and six-shooter magnums. And everyone should take the pleasure of going out and dropping a Fat Boy on a herd of Fallout's version of cattle.

The soundtrack for the game is another place where FONV shines. It fits thematically with the genre the game is set in and with the story of how the game progressed to where it is as a post apocalyptic setting. The department responsible for the sound and music chose a very nice selection of 1940s to 1970s era music that features Frank Sinatra, Marty Robbins, and Peggy Lee.

The music fits the setting and theme of the game, it is the setting that is in my opinion, the biggest drawback of the game. One of the important things about a post apocalyptic setting is to achieve that sense of desolate wasteland while balancing that mix of interaction where there is the splashes of color that mark human existance. The game does try to achieve this balance but falls short until the story progresses into New Vegas itself. These splashes of color could have come from the various places that it is possible to visit with over 50 locations to go outside of New Vegas itself - the gas stations, shacks, vaults, and other places but these places are so small and the run through them so fast that they are hardly memorable and fail to satisfy that need for 'something else' in the game that provides color and texture. I believe the game needed a smaller wasteland and larger interiors to explore.

Lastly, if you come late to the game like I did. Don't do the DLC until after you've completed the main game. The gear and equipment that come from the DLC completely ruin the sense of balancing the game does attempt to do with the weapons and armor, and makes even the hardcore experience no more than a trivial walk through the rest of the game.

The Witcher 3 is an atmosphere immerseive, open world RPG brought to us by CD Project Red. The game was advertised as being large, with a dynamic environment, and intelligent AI that would alter the game world in small ways based on your choices. While PC players saw a scaling down of graphical intensity for the consoles, the rest of what was advertised by CDPR remained absolutely true.

The gameplay for the Witcher 3 brings us the familiar leaping and strike methods of combat that we grew to know in the first two entries to the series. What was removed was the combat timing for sword strikes which opened up the ability to integrate more effective combat maneuvers into the game such as two different forms of dodging and creating more and better openings to make use of Signs, the Witcher magic. In addition to this we have an expansive option of bombs to make use of and the new crossbow that was added to the game. All of these elements tie together very well to make combat engaging, on both a strategic and tactical level. In addition, this means combining these elements, with skilled gameplay, makes it quite possible to kill contract creatures, random encounters, and bosses much higher than your level, while maintaing a high level of challenge to the game.

Questing in the Witcher 3 usually starts and ends with dialogue cut scenes. From main storyline quests, to sidequests, and to contract quests. Every quest in the game is treated as it's own little story arch which may lead to additional archs. Interestingly these archs wil open up or close off other available story options based on the choices that are made by the player. And sometimes these choices have far reaching consequences later down the line. While many of the quests can be of a similar type or contain the same elements, CDPR has made sure to mix up enough of those elements with interesting and engaging story so they stay fresh, interesting, and worth doing.

The world of the Witcher 3, I said is quite dynamic and this is true - what you do in an area can impact that area later. Did you just kill a whole pack of wolves near a village? Those wolves might have been on and off fighting with the Nekkers nearby keeping them out of the village. Or did you kill the Nekkars leaving the wolves to terrorize the village? These little actions can matter. Part of this dynamic environment, the game boasts a fast travel method that players can unlock locations to pretty quick in the early game. But those who avoid using the fast travel system too much will find their explorations or random road travels rewarded with Points of Interest that are not given as free on their world map, or the discovery of sidequests they may have otherwise missed - or might only be available during the day or night cycles. Add in that the atmosphere of the game and the world design is absolutely beautiful makes traversing the game without extensive use of fast travel worth doing.

A brief touching on the graphics and the sound. The graphics for the game are very well done. On a standard system with medium settings the game is beautiful and the characters look very well done. On Ultra settings you get many more textures and higher quality settings that ups the ante for what the game is capable of and I hope that we'll see mods that further improve these things that were lost to the console conversions. The sound for the game comes in two elements; musical composition and voice acting. The musical composition was a well done blend of low soft-key elements when traveling and high tempoed music during combat elements that fits the entire atmosphere of the game very well - it is one of the few games I personally have played without turning the music off. The voice acting is well done without being wooden or stodgy. Kudos to all those actors and actresses. Well done.

For all of the wonderful elements that makes the Witcher 3 worth playing there are a few cons to go with these pros. In my early game experiences I ran into an issue with the cut scene dialogue getting off track with the video of the cut scene. I discovered this to be a console conversation cause - the scenes were running at 30FPS with the dialogue on Ultra settings running for 60FPS scenes. A simple adjustment was required to a .ini file to fix this.

During some combat or in certain areas it is hard to tell what is scenery you can clip through and what is not. This sometimes lead to dodging or rolling into a space that would would endup with Geralt being cornered and quickly killed. This issue was reduced as I became more skilled at play and my awareness of the terrain increased but in the early game this can be quite frustrating.

In my game I rarely used oils. When fighting creatures I may not have had the specific oil to use when it would matter or there was a cutscene preceeding it which meant using an oil wasn't cost efficient against the duration. Oils and potion effects need to have their duration suspended during cut scenes to make them worthwhile to use as preparation for tough fights.

Lastly, while I loved the crafting done in the game. I learned quickly that I was discovering patterns for swords and armor that were quickly becoming useless or obsolete. I believe some more balancing in the game should be done so that these other non-witcher patterns might make viable alternatives or become worthwhile choices to craft in the mid-levels between witcher-specific gear upgrades.

In the end. I spent almost 200 hours in The Witcher 3 with roughly 100 points of interest left to explore. I pre-ordered the game. And was hyped for it before it launched. All of my expectations were more than met and I would recommend anyone who loves the Witcher series to buy the game, or if you just want a fun engaging RPG experience, pick it up.

Since the release of the Witcher 3 they have put out two expansions. Both of which are expansive and as challenging as the initial game with just enough new features to make them interesting and worth the playthrough. The development team continues their pattern of personalized quests that help with immersion into the areas that they take you within the story and ensure that you will have a great time reaching their conclusions.

If you love South Park then you're going to love playing the Stick of Truth. It is just like stepping into an interactive episode that you have control of. The sound design is pretty spot on for the game's theme. The gameplay is enjoyable. And for an RPG it doesn't overstay its welcome.

For story the game is filled with all of the typical South Park humor with all of those other little elements that give their episodes their nuanced subtle pokes in Trey and Matt's manner of social commentary. But they are not so obvious or in your face it detracts from the game.

If you're a fan of South Park and you want an enjoyable RPG, the Stick of Truth is a good buy.

I picked up Hero of the Kingdom 2 because I enjoyed the first game so much. The independent developer really brought more to the game this time with more maps, more things to hunt for, and challenging achievements that were fun to pick up while playing through.

The story was engaging enough to stay interesting and while the game has little replay (unless you're going back for missed achievements) it is an excellent casual game to spend some time playing here and there.

In the first Heroes game you got about four hours of gameplay from start to finish with 100% completion and this was almost double the time thanks to added content. The flow of the game remained smooth and didn't present an issue, at least to me, when backtracking to pick up items needed to fulfill quests.

One note I would recommend for the developers is an active quest log that tracks the items you need. That was the most cause of my backtracking at times - to see what items I still needed.

Overall, fun game. Very casual and worth a play. The price point is about spot on for what getting what you pay for and any deal that gives it more than 30% off is a steal.
