This is the rare gem of a sequel that improves on the original in every single way. Amazingly, it's also an excellent game in its own right! It's not life-changing, but I've enjoyed the first Ziggurat for years as a go-to shooter for a few idle minutes here or there. This Ziggurat has immediately supplanted the first one for me.

Do not buy this game if you intend to play it on Linux. It used to work, but you can't login anymore, no version of Proton will get it running, and there's no guarantee that it will ever be fixed.

Otherwise it's a perfectly fine adaptation of a great board game.

I can see why some people might like this game. I do not. I found it ugly and boring. Try the demo before spending money on this.

This game delights in wasting your time
I've never been super great at platformers, but I liked (and finished) DKC back on the SNES so I figured I'd give this a try. The game goes out of its way to make itself as accessible as possible at first, reassuring the player that they can tailor the difficulty as they see fit. Honestly? The game was a breeze right up until the end.

I can't do it. I can't beat the last level. So now I've poured 20 hours into something that was mostly a slog, with the expectation that I'd beat it and experience some form of catharsis. All I remember about it now is how much I hate it, how much it lied to me, and how I can't get my money back because I've put too much time into it after it sat on my shelf for months.

I guess the 4th tonic slot that doesn't actually do anything is a great meta-lesson: sometimes you spend money on something that you wanted to like but actively irritates you and there's nothing you can do about it, you just get robbed.

Also, why on earth do you have to sit through TWO studio logos when you open AND CLOSE the game?! That's just unacceptable. Sure, you can press alt+f4 on desktop, but if you're streaming to a couch and don't have a keyboard near by, the only thing you can do is sit there and simmer as the game wastes even more of your time.

There are good elements of the game, but holy hell the marauders ruin the pacing and suck all of the joy from the experience.

The game is fantastic and the devs actually listen to the community. Phenomenal example of the genre.

Tip: prioritize life nodes or end game will end you.

I've been playing Civ for many, many years. This is the first iteration that I've felt is complete from day 1, and the first iteration that I've felt comfortable introducing to new players. It has some problems for sure...bugs will be frustrating, but can be easily worked around. The AI doesn't act like a human opponent all the time, or even most of the time, but there are enough diplomacy systems in place that it at least feels like a reasonable opponent.

Veterans of the series might not call this their favorite game, but it adds enough new stuff (districts, support units) to be worth checking out.

Where I think this version of Civilization will really shine is with new players. This is a great place to start if you've never played a Civ game.
