A fun little tower defense game like many of the other Kingdom titles. Cute little references, heroes, tower upgrading, a good variety of maps.

I bought this game worried it would disappoint me because all Warhammer games seem to have a bad reputation, even if they're solid experiences. So, i'm just going to get straight to the point in terms of the pros and cons and the neutral I have so far with Chaosbane.

Pros: The game is fun to play. Classes are enjoyable and play differently from each other and the combat feels smooth. So for example, your characters have access to only weapons that they can utilize. (No running around with Slayer axes as your Empire Soldier.)

Bosses are really enjoyable in this game, they give me that old Gauntlet Legends/Dark Legacy vibe.

The skill tree is interesting, even if it does only unlock skills for you when you level up similarly to D3. However, it's the manner of which you equip your skills is neat. You have a limited amount of loadout points which you use to place skills/passives on the more powerful versions of the skills are obviously more expensive, so there's a limitation on what you can use at any time.

Visually has that Warhammer vibe to it. If you like Warhammer fantasy, you'll feel right at home.

Cons: Loot is very streamlined and is essentially the loot system from D3. Basic stats, nothing unique or crazy with them.

Levels can be repetitive. This should be expected from an Indie dev, but it can be jarring for some.

Price. This is the big one for a lot of people and one of the reasons I think a lot of the reviews are mixed. This game on sale -feels- like it's the appropriate price for the title given what you're getting from it. At full price it just isn't worth it, not from a lack of quality or enjoyment but because there are so many other options available from an arpg standpoint these days.

Neutral:

Story is forgettable, not surprising for an arpg.

Voice acting is hit and miss. Once again, expected for an arpg/indie game.

Pretty straight forward arpg. If you play Chaosbane, you're not going to be blown away by some crazy, innovative idea that has never been seen before. Chaosbane plays as what you would expect from this genre, not necessarily a bad thing or a good thing.

DLC. I don't really like the amount of stuff this game has for dlc. Pets, more cosmetic for helmets, etc. It's not a deal breaker and you don't need them, but I really dislike seeing cosmetics blocked behind a paywall.

Lots of instanced areas. It's weird going from Grim Dawn's entirely open world to Chaosbane more instanced off maps.

Overall though, I think this game is actually really fun. It's not going to have the depth of PoE or Grim Dawn, but it's got the charms of that old style gauntlet legends vibe to me.

Really fun grid based dungeon crawler. This is the prequel to Vaporum but it also enriched with lore as much as the first (If not more so.)

It has a pretty nice steampunk/Lovecraftian vibe to it so I would highly recommend for anyone whose a fan of these types of games in this genre. Truly a gem.

Once upon a time i'd recommend this game. I bought it in early access and had a great time, even with the changes from the original. The game has stumbled over itself with continuous questionable decisions of additions to the game.

The elephant in the room is obviously the paid weapon packs...I shouldn't even say packs as they sell them individually. Not only are they overpriced but flat out scummy as it shows where their priorities now are.

Every update seems to spew out a few new paid weapons with zero real balancing thought around them along with a lot of focus of making them the most interesting that the playerbase was asking for since back in the early access stage. Now I don't want to sound ungrateful, Tripwire DID support Killing Floor 2 for a number of years and technical issues aside it was a fun game and I very much got my moneys worth. (Even paid for some stupid hats and characters for the sake of supporting them.) but I can't really encourage people to buy and play it today. There are so much abandoned features such as the PhysX, the lighting system which was a major selling point has been dumbed down to a point of it just being a pointless gimmick, bugs such as resetting all your options with every other update annoyingly forcing you to go into the INI files to turn off mouse acceleration and the like.

No Listen Servers, so if you just want to play with a few friends you HAVE to start your own server while in Kf1 you could just host without trouble, teammates flashlights don't even cast their own lights that you can see (Which they once were capable of doing. A small complaint but one of many that just add up to a number of problems.)

Couple all the game issues with Tripwire's behavior and new monetizing the game simply falls flat on it's face these days.

Only four hours in and but i'm enjoying what i've seen and played so far. The game is certainly clunky in areas and load times can be a bit of a bummer. However the game feels very rewarding to discover things on your own, figure stuff out, learn the nuances of weapon speeds, enemy variety and actions.

You are going to die a lot in this game from either being impatient, ill-prepared or simply feeling you are the most dangerous thing in this world. You're not and you need to learn that quickly.

The game is a bit awkward in the beginning but if you stick with it it'll start feeling extremely rewarding to watch actual improvement being made.

Please keep in mind, this game is NOT for everybody. It saves automatically, it expects you to learn from your mistakes but actually have to make those mistakes first. There is travel time such as no fast travel and there are no quest markers to tell you exactly where to go. You need to speak with the NPC for directions.

This is for people who like older school mechanics and immersion of doing those things yourself without any hand-holding. Which means it's going to turn off a lot of modern gamers which have become use to those quality of life things. If you are into these open world kind of rpgs though, I highly recommend you give it a go.

A sort of 3v3 hide n seek kind of game. I don't have a super lot of time in the game so far, but i'm enjoying it for it's aesthetics and unique twist on a team versus game. :)

A great addition to the dungeon crawling experience. Very steampunk heavy with a pretty fun combat system where you gotta stay alert.

For the experienced, play on hard as you'll get the most enjoyment out of that I feel.

Big fan of this dlc, and I really like the new mechanic of the dungeons. I think it adds a new layer of difficulty and mindset when going through it. :D

Early Access Review
A charming little throw back to the classic action rpg Diablo. Only done in a beautiful paper pop-up book aesthetic.

Gameplay: Semi on rails you take your hero down various corridors and hallways to slay monsters, level up and collect loot. Loot in this case is mainly gold and of course cards. Cards consist of your abilities. (A nice feature as it gives lots of ways to play the game!) And rune cards, which are used as a means to upgrading said ability cards coupled with a gold sum.

The game shows an amazing amount of promise and the devs certainly deserve to be recognized for it's beautiful aesthetic and really addicting, easy to get into gameplay.

Another incredibly nice feature is this game is great for if you have small amount of time as you can select how much you want to progress from simple 5 minute sessions to 45.

The devs have also been very vocal on the steam forums about questions, curiosities, concerns, feedback be it negative or positive. It's a refreshing thing to see after so many atrocious games both in early access and fully released as of late.
