One of the better specimens from the recent wave of turn-based tactics games. Has long way to go in terms of content but what is there is very much playable and moderately exciting. What's in the game now is definitely not worth the price tag but if things go the way the developers promise, it should be. It's a cautious recommendation but a recommendation nonetheless. I know I'm going against the majority here, who seem to have enjoyed the game, but I was expecting something quite different. I realize it's an early access title but the fundamentals aren't really there. The physics engine is jittery and jiggly almost to a comic degree and the career mode is pure grind that will have you do the same thing over and over again to do a different thing over and over again. I was drawn towards this game due to its somewhat unique art style and minimal UI but met mostly disappointment. It's a cliché horror narrative in the form of a pretty dull and linear exploration game punctuated with immersion breaking "quick, hide in the wardrobe!" and "walk slowly past the monster" events. I really like the game mechanics and the unit models and even kind of dig the universe but the game has way too many problems for me to be able to recommend it. Triggering animation freezes the screen for a second, general low frames, horrible voice acting, cheesy writing, soundtrack that will drive you insane if you don't disable it and only 3 (!) maps on release to name a few. This game takes A LOT of "inspiration" from Firaxis XCOM but that is not necessarily a bad thing. The level of strategic choices seems a bit shallow and the battles are a lot less fun than in XCOM but the hero breeding system and the long term kingdom management aspects are interesting enough to keep me going. Even though the game already has some cool stuff in it (details: http://youtu.be/1kPOGYc8g5I) I can't really recommend it in it's current state (Alpha 15) and for it's current price. If the developers deliver everything they've promised, and the game looks great on paper, it will be a pretty cool open world survival sim. But it isn't one right now.
